August 14, 2018 (la Mesa) - A year ago this week, 25-year-old Rebekah Basson attended her first meeting as a newly appointed school board member in East County — based in part on her pledge to run for a full term in November 2018.

LMSV SUPERINTENDENT BRIAN MARSHALL ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT PLANS

March 13, 2018 (La Mesa) – After 14 years as Superintendent of the La Mesa0Spring Valley School District, Brian Marshall will retire on December 31st, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Marshall has a long career in East County and San diego.  After receiving his Masters of Arts degree in Educational Administration from San Diego State University and a teaching credential at the University of San Diego, he became vice principal of Lakeside Middle School in 1993 and in 1995 was named principal of Tierra del Sol Middle School in the Lakeside Union School District.

LA MESA-SPRING VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CONSIDER BOARD APPOINTMENT

January 20, 2015 (La Mesa) – The La Mesa-Spring Valley School District Board meets this evening at 7:00 p.m., and will consider candidates to fill a vacancy on the Board resulting from former Board Member Bill Baber’s election to La Mesa City Council.

December 11, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) – La Mesa-Spring Valley School District is accepting applications now through January 12th to fill the vacancy left by former trustee Bill Baber. Baber won election to La Mesa’s City Council.

District-Sponsored Student Speech Contest commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision a huge success

September 26, 2014 (La Mesa)--Dr. Emma Turner, President of the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District Board of Education, and the District Governance Team, will host a screening on September 29 featuring the First Annual Student Speech Contest held earlier this year.  The topic of the speeches was “60 Years Later: What is the Legacy of Brown v. Board of Education?”

Proposition M Bond Refinance a huge success

March 27, 2014 (La Mesa) -- The La Mesa-Spring Valley School District was able to refinance a portion of the Proposition M General Obligation Bonds saving $650,000.  Much like a homeowner can refinance a home loan to obtain a better interest rate and lower their monthly mortgage payment a school district can refinance its bonds for a better rate and lower the bond cost to all property tax payers.

Update March 15, 2013:  The Board appointed Gerald Lecko to fill the vacancy.

March 11, 2013 (San Diego’s East County ) – A preacher, a scientist, a substitute teacher,  an architect, an IT tech for the Navy, and a  PTA president are all vying for appointment to the La Mesa Spring Valley School Board to replace Penny Halgren, who resigned for personal reasons. The LMSV board has decided to fill the vacancy by appointment to avoid costs of a special election.

On March 14, the board will hear from the applicants and take public comments before casting their votes at the special meeting.Six candidates, listed in alphabetical order, are Steve Babbitt, Robert Divine II, Gerald “Jerry “ Lecko, Ben Motten, Jay Steiger, and Mike Stewart. SPRING VALLEY STUDENTS COMPETE IN COUNTYWIDE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

February 10, 2012 (Spring Valley) -- After four months of spending many evenings and weekends preparing and learning about a variety of science subjects, the Spring Valley Middle School Science Olympiad team competed in the San Diego County Regional Science Olympiad. The annual competition took place on Saturday February 4 at Rancho Bernardo High School with 28 schools from all around the county, and 90 total middle school teams. Spring Valley Middle School, which is part of the La Mesa – Spring Valley School District was the only East County middle school that participated in the countywide event.

 

LA MESA SCHOOLS JOIN INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY OCT. 6

 

October 2, 2010 (La Mesa) -- To encourage health through physical activity and reduce traffic around schools, eight schools in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District will participate in the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 6th. Students will be walking or biking to school, along with parents, teachers, principals, and community leaders.
