HUNTER AIDE KILLED IN LAKESIDE CAR WRECK

December 25, 2011 (Ramona)—Nelson Edward “Mac” MacWilliams, 54, has been identified by the Medical Examiner’s office as the driver who died December 20 in a rollover accident on Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside. RamonaPatch.com reports that MacWilliams worked in Congressman Duncan Hunter’s El Cajon office, handling military and veterans’ issues.

FATAL COLLISION IN EL CAJON REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION

 
December 23, 2011 (El Cajon) -- At approximately 6:02 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, El Cajon Police Officers and Heartland Fire & Rescue crews responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the roadway, in the 1200 block of Jamacha Road,  in El Cajon.

December 23, 2011 (Lemon Grove) – Someone in Lemon Grove has 17 million reasons to be joyful this holiday season.  That’s because his or her SuperLotto Plus ticket matched all six numbers in this week’s draw and is worth $17 million. 

The winning ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 7607 Broadway in Lemon Grove. The winning numbers are 21, 38, 44, 43, 8 and Mega 24.
                                                           
                                                              
7-Eleven will receive a bonus of one half percent or $85,000 for selling the winning ticket. Jackpot winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim the jackpot prize. The estimated cash option amount for this ticket is $12.2 million.

HIGH WIND WARNING ISSUED

December 23, 2011 (San Diego)-- The National Weather Service has issued a wind warning for today and tomorrow in San Diego County.  Gusts of up to 60 mph are forecast with sustained winds in the 25-35 mph range.  Use caution when traveling particularly in high-profile vehicles.

Sunny skies are forecast for Christmas Day.

December 21, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- Tonight the 1200 block of Jamacha Road is closed  in both directions due to a fatal traffic collision which is under investigation. A skateboarder was the pedestrian involved in the incident.

ROLLOVER ACCIDENT ON WILDCAT CANYON ROAD


December 20, 2011 (Lakeside) -- At 1:22 p.m. today there was a single vehicle rollover accident at Wildcat Canyon Road and Muth Valley Road in Lakeside. The accident blocked Wildcat Canyon Road in both directions at Old Barona Road, and at Willows Road. One fatality has been confirmed.

LEONARD SMITH,OWNER OF LEONARD SMITH REALTY DIES


December 19, 2011 (La Mesa) -- The death of Leonard
 Smith, owner of Leonard Smith Realty on Grossmont Boulevard was confirmed Friday morning, December 16, by his son David.
 
According to his website, he began his real estate career in La Mesa in 1946. A charter member of the La Mesa Board of Realtors and past president, he was instrumental in organizing their Multiple Listing Service. He maintained a La Mesa office for 50+ years, enjoying a reputation of the highest integrity while specializing in selling fine homes in the Mt. Helix and East County areas.

LAKESIDE FIRE STATION GRAND OPENING

December 19, 2011 (Lakeside) -- Dignitaries and VIPs braved the blustery wind for the grand opening of the new Lakeside Fire District Administration Office and combination Fire Station #2 on December 16.  It was branded a "sneak preview" since the station has about two weeks worth of finishing work to be done by the contractors.  Firefighters are hoping to be moved into the now empty 24,000 square foot structure by mid-January.

HEAD-ON COLLISION IN JAMUL

 

December 18, 2011 (Jamul) – CHP reports a head-on collision on Highway 94 at Indian Springs in Jamul. The crash now involves three vehicles, a black SUV, a small white sedan, and a black mid-sized sedan. CHP, Cal-Fire and Border Patrol are now at the scene and an ambulance has been called.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ISSUED FOR MOUNTAINS

December 18, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for mountain areas in San Diego County and other southern California mountain locations. Scattered snow showers are expected early this afternoon with the snow level falling to 4500 feet. Locations where snow is forecast include Cuyamaca, Mount Laguna, and Ranchita locally.

BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND

 

 

On Monday, December 19, the search for Dan Hoff resumed.  At approximately 10:20 a.m., ASTREA discovered a body with a gun lying next to it, in the rural brush area on the back side of Iron Mountain.  The body was subsequently recovered and positively identified as Mr. Hoff.  The body sustained a single gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted in a suicide.

Confirmation of the cause of death will be made by the Medical Examiner’s Office pending further investigation.

SEARCH ON FOR MISSING LA MESA MAN AFTER VEHICLE FOUND NEAR IRON MOUNTAIN ON HWY 67

December 16, 2011 (Poway)--A search is underway in Poway for Dan Hoff, 43 a missing La Mesa man. He was last seen on Monday, December 12. His mother reported him missing yesterday, December 15 at 11 a.m.

Today, a Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in Poway found his car at the base of Iron Mountain on Poway Road and Highway 67 at 3:07 a.m. A check of the license plate turned up a missing person report from La Mesa Police.

La Mesa smart meter opponent voices outrage over families left in the cold

December 14, 2011 (La Mesa)—“We have just learned of a very troubling situation,” Susan Brinchman, a La Mesa activist leading statewide efforts to oppose smart meters, has informed ECM.  “Power has been cut off for three families who changed out the smart meters on their homes for analogs.” 

The shut-offs were made by Pacific Gas & Electric Company in Santa Cruz. Like a growing number of Californians, the families left in the dark had complained of health problems that they believed were caused by smart meters installed on their residences. Now, Brinchman fears that the same thing could happen in San Diego County.

DOG POISONING REPORTED IN DEERHORN VALLEY

December 14, 2011 (Deerhorn Valley) – The Deerhorn Valley Antler has published a warning from regarding a dog poisoning which reportedly occurred last week.

“Our farm dog was poisoned by antifreeze last week somewhere at the end of Deerhorn,” wrote Eowyn Smith of Wilde Oaks Farms, located near the top of Deerhorn Valley Road.  He recalled, "Several years ago there was a rash of similar dog poisoniongs in the area, killing at least six dogs at the end of Deerhorn.”

MISSION TRAILS HIKER DIED OF HEART ATTACK, MEDICAL EXAMINER CONCLUDES

December 13, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Following an examination, the San Diego Medical Examiner has concluded that Jeffery Martin Andrews, 33, died of sudden cardiac arrest associated with coronary artery atherosclerosis.

Andrews collapsed while hiking in Mission Trails Regional Park on September 7. He was found by a hiker, who asked a jogger to call 911. Santee Fire Department responded to the call and confirmed death without medical intervention.

 December 12, 2011 (La Mesa) – David Gonzalez, 16, and his grandmother, Celia Torres, 73, have been identified by family members as the victims who perished in a fiery collision Friday on Highway 125 just south of I-8.  Gonzalez was a sophomore at Grossmont High School and hoped to join the military.
