I-15 may be shut down again as officials detonate more powerful explosives

November 20, 2010 (Escondido) – More than nine pounds of Hexamethylene Triperoxide Diamine (HMTD), a powerful explosive used in suicide bombings and terrorist plots including the planned Millennium bombing in L.A., have been discovered by authorities at an Escondido home.

MISSING LAKESIDE TEEN MAY BE VICTIM OF FOUL PLAY

November 20, 2010 (Lakeside) – Christopher Cory Carioscia, 17, told his family he was going surfing at Pacific Beach on the evening of October 26th. The former El Capitan High School student hasn’t been seen by his family since.

The Sheriff’s department never notified the media about the teen’s disappearance, although it’s been reported on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Chldren website and other missing children sites. Now, the Union-Tribune reports that Carioscia’s car was found burned on the Barona reservation the day after he vanished.

POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF GIRL, 16, IN TIERRASANTA

 

Update: The victim has been identified as Emily Palmeter, who resided on Via Vallarta in San Diego, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.  An autopsy has not yet been conducted.  

November 20, 2010 (Tierrasanta)--San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl inside a Tierrasanta apartment last night.

BUNGLED BURGLARY ENDS WITH TWO ARRESTS

 

November 19, 2010 (La Mesa) Two prowlers found themselves confronting a startled homeowner after prying off a window screen at a La Mesa residence today. The attempted break-in occurred at 4251 Woodland Drive shortly after 1 p.m.  The suspects were arrested a short time later.

CITY HEIGHTS SCHOOL IN LOCKDOWN AS POLICE SEEK SUSPECT WHO SHOT MAN IN BACK

 

Update: Two men have been arrested for this shooting. They were taken into custody at an apartment on 52nd Street near Trojan Avenue.
November 16, 2010 (San Diego)—Shortly before 2 p.m. today, two men including one on a bicycle reportedly fired several rounds near Colina del Sol Park at Orange Avenue and fled toward El Cajon Blvd. San Diego Police officers found a man shot in the back. The victim has been taken to a hospital. As a precaution, Fay Elementary School has been placed on lockdown while police search the area.

TWO ARMED ROBBERIES AT GAS STATIONS IN OTAY AREA

 

November 16, 2010 (Otay Mesa) – San Diego Police are investigating two armed robberies on Sunday, November 14 of gas stations in Otay Mesa. The first occurred at 10:56 p.m. at the Chevron Gas Station, 3302 Palm Ave. The second robbery was at 11:35 p.m. at the Unocal Gas Station, 4360 Palm Avenue. In both cases, the suspect pointed a possible shotgun wrapped in a white cloth or white T-shirt at the clerk, then fled on cash with the cash.

ROBBER THREATENS TO STAB CLERK IN LA MESA; 2ND ROBBERY AT KNIFEPOINT IN ALLIED GARDENS

November 13, 2010 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police responded to a robbery at the 76 gas station at 6085 Lake Murray Blvd. at 3:32 this morning. The clerk told police that a white man with heavily tattooed arms a shaved head and plug-style earrings posed as a customer and asked to purchase some items. When the clerk began ringing up the purchases, the man produced a large pocket knife and threatened to stab the clerk if she did not hand over cash from the register.

November 12, 2010 (El Cajon) – John Holsheimer has been sentenced to a maximum of 300 days in jail, five years probation, and 320 hours of community service for killing Bridgette Hale, mother of an infant son, in a head-on collision January 24th on Highway 67. Holsheimer must also undergo 90 days of drug rehab at his own expense, pay $4,700 in restitution costs to the court, and is prohibited from coming within 100 feet of a casino for the rest of his life.

Vera is wanted on federal drug charges related to a methamphetamine distribution ring in East County.

 November 8, 2010 (San Diego) -- The FBI and San Diego Police Department seekthe public’s assistance to identify a man responsible for robbing the Chase Bank at 6116 Mission Gorge Road, San Diego, on Saturday, November 6th at 3 p.m. The robber made a verbal demand for money in a soft but intense tone of voice, according to FBI special agent Darrell Foxworth. At one point during he stated “don’t mess with me.” The teller provided the robber a sum of money and he left on foot.

1 DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED IN ALPINE DOUBLE STABBING

November 7, 2010 (Alpine) -- Last night at 8:20 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies as well as firefighters from Alpine, Lakeside and Viejas responded to reports of a stabbing victim.  They found a man with a stab wound in his upper body sprawled on the street in front of 2721 Alpine Blvd. near Rock Terrace in  Alpine. A second victim identified as Edward “Ted” Barton was found behind the premises. He had also been stabbed.

November 6, 2010 (San Diego) -- San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives have arrested Julio Angel Garcia-Puente for the murder of a woman whose body was found in a burning vehicle at a University of California San Diego parking lot on October 29 at 9:20 p.m. An autopsy revealed that the victim was murdered.

Charges were filed with the U.S. District Court yesterday against Lerczak, who is accused of robbing Bank of the West at 9832 Campo Road, Spring Valley on November 4.

November 6, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) --The FBI and San Diego Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a man believed responsible for robbing three San Diego banks within the last month. The latest robbery was the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 5624 Mission Center Road on Tuesday, November 2. The same robber is also suspected of bank robberies in the College and Mission Gorge areas, according to special agent Darrell Foxworth with the FBI’s San Diego office.

November 4, 2010 (Spring Valley) – Detectives at the San Diego Sheriff’s Lemon Grove substation seek the public’s help to locate a heavy set Hispanic man in his 40s driving an older two-door blue or green car. According to detective Monica Sanchez, the man attempted to expose himself to a young girl walking t La Presa Middle School on October 28 between 8 and 8:15 a.m. He later grabbed the arm of a second girl walking to school and made sexually suggestive comments.

November 4, 2010 (San Diego) – Edwin Power was arrested for robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in Carlsbad on Monday, where he reportedly told a teller that he is the “geezer bandit” who has robbed numerous banks in San Diego County, including two in Santee.But FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth has said that he is skeptical of that claim.

November 3, 2010 (La Mesa) -- The FBI is announcing the arrests of two U.S. Marines, Dominique Dontae Lasker, 26 and Davon Jacques Darden, 23, of San Diego for robbery of the California Coast Credit Unionat  8002 La Mesa Boulevard, La Mesa, on October 30th. The suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the credit union wearing masks, the FBI reports. The men jumped over the teller counter and robbed multiple tellers at gunpoint.

October 31, 2010 (San Diego) – Community members are invited to a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of San Diego Police Officer Chris Wilson, who died in a gun battle on Wednesday night while trying to arrest an assault suspect. The event will be held on Monday November 1st at 6 p.m. in Skyview Park, 7222 Skyline Drive, next to the police station in the Southeast San Diego neighborhood where Wilson worked for 17 years.

HOMES EVACUATED IN ROLANDO; SWAT TEAM CALLED IN ON SEARCH FOR ARMED BANK ROBBERS

 

Update October 31, 10:20 a.m. -- The SWAT action has ended and a second suspect was taken into custody half an hour ago, Sgt. Randy Levitt has informed East County Magazine. The suspect's name and details of the arrest have not yet been released.

October 30, 2010 8:35 p.m.  (La Mesa) -- A stand-off continues tonight as police continue searching for a bank robbery suspect believed to be hiding in the Rolando neighborhood.  A second suspect, Davan Darden, 23, was arrested at 5:45 this evening.  The area remains evacuated, according to Officer Stafford, San Diego Police.

Two robbers conducted a takeover-style robbery at the California Coast Credit Union in the Vons Center on La Mesa Boulevard around 2 p.m., San Diego Police report, prompting a chase through San Diego, La Mesa and El Cajon.

UNDERCOVER OPERATION NAILS 13 FOR PROSTITUTION

 

October 30, 2010 (El Cajon) -- The El Cajon Police Department conducted an undercover operation Thursday targeting men soliciting prostitution acts from women on the streets of El Cajon. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the operation. A total of 13 individuals were arrested during the five-hour operation.

CARJACKERS WHO STRUCK VICTIM WITH SKATEBOARD ARRESTED

 

October 30, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police report a carjacking last night around 11:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of 48th street.  Two Hispanic men n their 20s, one carrying a skateboard and the other armed with a knife, attacked a motorist and stole his car.  One struck the driver over the head with the skateboard; the suspects then pulled the victim from his car.
