FELONY WARRANT SUSPECT ARRESTED ON MT. HELIX

September 27, 2017 (Mt. Helix) – Michael Todd Littlefield, 50, was taken into custody Monday on Weston Road near Grandview in the Mt. Helix area.  “Littlefield had a felony warrant for auto theft,” Ryan Keim, Media Relations Director for the San Diego Sheriff department informed East County Magazine.

SPRING VALLEY MARIJUANA DISPENSARY OWNER ARRESTED

 

Update September 22, 2017:  Tooma has pleaded not guilty, claiming he only owns a smoke shop next door, not Spring Valley Greens, Patch.com reports.

September 20, 2017 (Spring Valley) – The owner of Spring Valley Greens, an illegal marijuana dispensary also known as the Wax Room, has been arrested.  Steve Tooma, 35, has been charged with opening a drug house, criminal conspiracy, and possession of marijuana for sale at the dispensary located at 9925 Campo Road in the Casa de Oro neighborhood of Spring Valley.

IDENTITY RELEASED OF DEPUTY WHO SHOT TRANSIENT IN SANTEE

September 17, 2017 (Santee) – The officer who shot Robert Westbrook on State Route 125 the evening of September 8th has been identified as Deputy Freddy Herrero. He has been employed as a deputy sheriff with the San Diego Sheriff’s station for four years and is assigned to the Santee Sheriff’s station.

A MILLION PUNCHES FROM THE HEART: PUNCHING OUT RACISM, GANG VIOLENCE AND MISTRUST OF POLICE SEPT. 16 IN EL CAJON

September 11, 2017 (El Cajon) – Imagine a fire station hung with heavy punching bags, filled with youth, community members, police and firefighters all furiously punching away for 60 seconds at a time.  On Saturday, September 16 from 8 a.m. until noon, the public is invited to help firefighters and police officers "punch out racism, gang violence and mistrust of the police." Heartland Fire & Rescue Fire Station 6 at 100 East Lexington Avenue in El Cajon will be hosting this event put on by "ABC Youth Foundation:  an after school boxing, tutoring and mentorship program that serves at risk youth in San Diego."

IDENTITY OF TRANSIENT SHOT BY DEPUTY ON HIGHWAY 125 RELEASED

September 9, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) — Robert Westbrook, 31, a transient white male living out of his vehicle, was shot and injured last night after threatening suicide and displaying a BB or pellet gun resembling a semiautomatic pistol, according to the Sheriff’s Department.  He sustained multiple gunshot wounds but is expected to survive.

WHITE VAN, THREE MEN SOUGHT IN ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF BOYS IN POWAY

September 5, 2017 (Poway) – The Sheriff seeks public help to locate three suspects in a white van who reportedly tried to kidnap two boys, ages 9 and 12.

According to the boys, the van pulled up next to them as they were walking along Martincoit Road on Thursday, August 21st.  A front passenger wearing a black ski mask tried to grab the 12-year-old through an open window and ordered him to “Get in the car.”

EL CAJON POLICE OFFICER TO STILL FACE CIVIL COMPLAINT IN ALFRED OLANGO CASE; CITY OF EL CAJON DISMISSED FROM LAWSUIT

August 29, 2017 (El Cajon) -- The El Cajon police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man last year will still have to face a civil lawsuit filed on behalf of Richard Olango Abuka, the father of the shooting victim, according to a San Diego Union-Tribune article published on August 25. At the same time, U.S. District Court Judge Cynthia Bashant dismissed the City of El Cajon from the case, saying that there was not enough evidence to argue that the department’s policies or decisions may have in some way contributed to Alfred Olango’s death.

August 29, 2017 (Spring Valley) – Jaquan Ramsay, 30, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a woman in Spring Valley this afternoon.  The victim, described by authorities as a black female adult, suffered a gunshot wound to her right hand and left arm.

August 29, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – The San Diego Sheriff’s department has released the identity of a 19-year-old shot dead in Lemon Grove on August 24th by law enforcement officers after a pursuit that began in La Mesa and ended on Rebecca Lane in Lemon Grove.

August 24, 2017 (Lemon Grove) – Law enforcement agencies from multiple agencies  shot and killed a man in Lemon Grove who had opened fire on them following a pursuit early this morning, Times of San Diego.

  The chase reportedly began after a La Mesa Police officer  approaching a suspicious car stopped at a green light near Fletcher Parkway and Baltimore Drive heard screams; the car then sped away, according to Times of San Diego.

MAN FLASHES WOMAN ON TRAIL IN SANTEE

August 24, 2017 (Santee) – Women walking on the Walker Preserve Trail in Santee have said that a man exposed himself to them on August 17th and 21st.  He is described as a white or Hispanic man standing about 5 feet tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He wore a gold chain and a white shirt.

SHERIFF VEHICLE STRUCK BY TROLLEY

August 24, 2017 (Santee) – A Sheriff’s sergeant from the Santee substation sustained minor injuries when his patrol vehicle was struck by a trolley Wednesday evening at 6:25 p.m.

The sergeant, traveling westbound on Buena Vista Avenue at Cuyamaca Street, entered the intersection and was broadsided by the southbound trolley. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

SUSPECT WANTED FOR CARJACKING IN SANTEE: REWARD OFFERED

August 23, 2017 (Santee) – A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of an unidentified suspect who carjacked a vehicle at knifepoint on July 27 around 5 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot at 170 Town Center Parkway in Santee.  The suspect approached the victim from behind the car, punched and attempted to stab the male driver.

SUSPECT WANTED FOR ANNOYING CHILDREN IN LAKESIDE AND EL CAJON

August 21, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) -- Do you recognize the man in this sketch? He is suspected of following two young girls in the East County.

The first incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. on June 29th near Royal Road and Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside. The suspect honked his car as he drove by a 14-year-old girl. The victim says the suspect made a U-turn and pulled over to tell her she was "too pretty to be walking." The suspect then asked the victim if she wanted a ride. She said no and he drove away.

August 20, 2017 (San Diego) – “What we saw in Charlottesville is a bunch of thugs, bullies and criminals masquerading behind the freedom of speech,” said newly appointed San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan in a statement issued today, referring to white supremacists who rallied in Virginia, a gathering that included Nazis and Ku Klux Klan members armed with guns, chemicals, and other weapons.

August 15, 2017 (Mount Helix) – A resident on Mount Helix says he caught a woman driving a Lexus luxury car red-handed, stealing avocados off trees at his home before dawn last week.

The resident, Alan van Antwerp, in an interview with ECM news partner 10 News, said a motion sensor alerted him. He posted a photo of the startled woman and her license plate number on the Next Door Mount Helix forum, eliciting over 100 comments, many from residents reporting similar thefts of avocados and other fruits by thieves who left trees stripped bare.

August 14, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – “In recent months, the Rancho San Diego Command has experienced a trend of violent take-over style robberies of marijuana dispensaries,” Sergeant K. Murashige with the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s substation says, adding, “In each case, armed guards were not a deterrent, the suspects were all armed, dispensary staff members failed to call for help even after people were physically assaulted, and in some cases the staff members refused to allow law enforcement to enter, causing a stand-off situation that stretched the department's resources in helping victims.”

August 11, 2017 (Valley Center) – When an elderly woman came home and water running, she went in the bathroom and was astonished when a stranger stepped out of the shower – facing her stark naked.

She ran and yelled for her husband, who was working in his shop outside their home.  The discovered the intruder had fled and taken the woman’s watch.  She went outside, spotted him walking north on Valley Center Road, and followed him until law enforcement arrived, said Sargeant John Silva with the Sheriff’s Department.

WOMAN WALKING DOG ASSAULTED IN SANTEE

August 9, 2017 (Santee) – A woman walking her dog shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday night in the 9700 block of Cottonwood in Santee was violently assaulted.

The Sheriff’s office reports that a man attacked the woman from behind and cut her shorts. The victim suffered scratches and was taken to a hospital, then released later that evening.

SHERIFF SEEKS HELP TO NAB BURGLARY AND ID THEFT SUSPECT IN SANTEE

August 8, 2017 (Santee) -- Investigators with the Santee Sheriff's Station want your help in identifying and locating a man wanted for burglary and credit card fraud.

The first incident happened just after midnight on May 6th. The suspect used a stolen credit card to buy more than $500 worth of merchandise from the CVS store along the 9700 block of Mission Gorge Road in Santee. Investigators say the suspect had stolen the credit card from a secured locker inside the 24-Hour Fitness located in the 9900 block of Mission Gorge Road.

August 7, 2017 (Rancho San Diego) -- Cities across San Diego celebrated the National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, Aug. 1st. The Rancho San Diego Command hosted an event in the Target parking lot, where community members and police officers grilled hot dogs and visited booths. The National Night Out Against Crime is part of the wider public outreach strategy utilized by the RSD Command.



“We’re really involved in community policing. We take a lot of pride in doing a lot of outreach through faith-based and through community groups,” said Captain Marco Garmo. “Community outreach is so, so important. It’s just as important as putting bad guys in jail. They hold equal ground. We have to put resources towards it.”

TEENS ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY ON TROLLEY IN LA MESA

August 7, 2017 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have arrested two teenagers for armed robbery aboard a trolley on July 5th.

According to police, the victim, a juvenile male, was riding a trolley from San Diego. When it arrived at the Amaya Trolley Station in La Mesa, a group of young males approved the victim and one asked for the time.

FATAL SHOOTING IN SAN CARLOS

August 6, 2017 (San Carlos) – A 23-year-old man has died after being shot in the San Carlos neighborhood where he lived with his family.

San Diego Police indicate the shooting was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Friday night in the 6600 block of Park Ridge Boulevard.  A family member took the victim to Kaiser Zion Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

EAST COUNTY DRUG COURT CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY WITH GRADUATION CEREMONY

August 4, 2017 (El Cajon) - The Superior Court of California and Mental Health Systems, Inc. will hold a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, August 9th at 5:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Community Center, 9841 Vine Street, Lakeside.  This is the court’s 45th Graduation ceremony since it was founded 20 years ago in August 1997.  The 20th anniversary of East County Drug Court and the uplifting commencement ceremony is evidence of the tremendous impact that East County Drug Court has had on our community, a release from  the county’s Mental Health Service department states.
