PETERS HOLDS SLIM LEAD OVER SALDANA IN CLOSE RACE TO BATTLE BILBRAY

By Miriam Raftery

June 6, 2012 (San Diego) – He’s a winner, yet perhaps the biggest loser in San Diego’s June primary election. Republican Congressman Brian Bilbray captured just 41.30% of the vote—first place, enough to secure his spot in the fall run-off, but not exactly a decisive victory for an incumbent legislator. Worse from Bilbray’s point of view, his two strongest competitors—both Democrats—combined to take over 45% of the vote.

NATHAN FLETCHER SPEAKS ON MAYORAL EFFORT

By Nadin Abbott
Photographs Nadin Abbott and Tom Abbott

June 6th, 2012 (San Diego)--Last night as election results came in, Mayoral contender Nathan Fletcher was still telling his supporters that they were going to hold on for a few more hours for results. He said that “one year ago nobody gave us a chance.” He also told his supporters that “given the results and projections things were headed in the right direction.”

By this morning, however, with 100% of precincts counted and only some absentee and provisional ballots remaining, his showing proved not enough to overcome partisans on both sides.

LOCAL ATTORNEY ESTABLISHES EDUCATION CENTER TO SERVICE FAMILIES WITHIN SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY

June 6, 2012 (San Diego) — Realizing a need to have individualized enrichment programs for students, a San Diego attorney seeks to develop an education center to serve the entire family. Breana Ha, who came to the United States as a young child in 1979 as one of the boat people, said while there are several organizations serving the Vietnamese community in San Diego, there is, however, not one that provides educational services for the entire family. That idea gave birth to the Vietnamese American Center: Education, Recreation and Culture (VACERC).

THE RX FACTOR: A PRESCRIPTION FOR SUSPENSE

Book Review by Dennis Moore

Warning!

Do not start reading this book until you have the time to finish it. Ripped from the headlines, this novel of unrelenting suspense will keep you up all night and have you talking about it for weeks to follow.

June 5, 2012 (San Diego)--That is the caveat given by the publishers of this book written by J. Thomas Shaw, who co-founded one of the fastest growing independent mortgage banks in the United States. In most instances this type of hype does not live up to its billing. The Rx Factor is that rare exception! If I didn’t know better, I would think that The Rx Factor was a Robert Ludlum or John Grisham spy novel, reading like Ludlum’s The Matarese Circle. This book has everything that captivates one’s attention – conspiracy theory, sex, murder and betrayal, along with an intense love interest.
