March 24, 2021 (San Diego) - As of yesterday, Viejas Arena at San Diego State University became the county’s newest vaccination site, after the university and San Diego County partnered up to establish a more equitable site for communities within the College area. Although this site is open to the public, Chair of the County Board of Supervisors Nathan Fletcher, who issued a press conference Monday morning at the arena, announced that 10% of the vaccines have been reserved for San Diego’s ‘hardest-hit communities.’

January 24, 2018 (San Diego) -- Pepe Aguilar will perform live in concert at the Viejas Arena at San Diego State’s Aztec Bowl on January 28th at 6:30 p.m.
The American born singer and songwriter raised in Mexico started singing on stage at three years old and he’s never left. The son of Mexican music and film stars Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, he attained stardom in his own right with an album of romantic ballads in 1998. Since then, he’s embraced traditional Mexican rancheria and mariachi music as well as pop music – a style that has won him multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards and sold over 12 million albums.

April 18, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State has been selected to host the first and second rounds of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee announced today. This is the fifth time SDSU and Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl have been picked to serve as a host for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

January 28, 2013 (Alpine) - Based on an overwhelming response to the recently announced Fleetwood Mac Live 2013 North American tour, which has already sold over 325,000 tickets, the band announced today that they will be adding 13 shows—including the Viejas Arena at San Diego State University. The newly announced leg of the tour includes second shows in Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, new stops in Cleveland, Wantagh, Charlotte, Des Moines, Spokane, Portland, Sacramento, Albany, as well as, Montreal, Canada. A complete itinerary follows this release. Tickets for the second leg of the tour go on sale beginning February 1st at Ticketmaster.com.

March 11, 2012 (San Diego) -- It is science fair time again in San Diego. Tuesday, March 20 through Sunday, March 25 will be the time when more than 850 students throughout San Diego and Imperial counties will present their scientific research ranging in areas from Astronomy to Zoology at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. These 7-12 grade student participants, representing over 100 schools, will bring their work to the GSDSEF to be judged by professionals in their fields. They will be competing for 1st through 4th place awards, scholarships, trips, sweepstakes and professional society awards.

Both teams shook hands before the San Diego State women’s basketball team rushed to midcourt to join the rejoicing mob that had formed.
