December 23, 2010 (El Cajon) – A massive sinkhole in the 1900 block of Verde Glenn in El Cajon has forced shut down of the street, putting a crimp in holiday entertaining plans for several households. Frustrated residents made numerous calls last night, only to encounter multiple agencies that claimed fixing the problem was not their responsibility.

SR 67 TO SHUT DOWN MON.-WED. NIGHTS

 

December 20, 2010 (San Diego's East County)--State Route 67 will close in both directions between Prospect and Woodside Avenues tonight through Wednesday from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the next morning. In addition, starting at 8 p.m., the southbound Magnolia on-ramp, northbound Bradley Avenue on-ramp and Prospect Avenue off-ramp will also be closed. The closures will allow highway construction crews to install highway signs and remove k-rail.

CHALDEAN CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION DEC. 18 IN EL CAJON

 

December 18, 2010 (El Cajon) – Christmas on Prescott, a unique Chaldean Christmas Celebration, will be held Saturday, December 18 from 1-5 p.m. on Prescott Promeande in downtown El Cajon. The event will feature Christian Arabic carols and music, English carols and music, skits, Santa Claus, face painting, balloons, and more. In addition, downtown stores and restaurants are open while you enjoy the free Holly Jolly Trolley around downtown, strolling Christmas carolers, and merchant specials.

PAROLEE ARRESTED FOR KIDNAP, RAPE OF GIRL ABDUCTED FROM WAL-MART IN EL CAJON

 

December 8, 2010 (El Cajon)—A 15-year-old girl was abducted from the Wal-Mart at 13487 Camino Canada in El Cajon on Monday December 6th, San Diego Sheriff’s Department reports. Parolee David Lascelles has been arrested for allegedly using a gun to kidnap the victim, then drive her to Fiesta Island, where he reportedly raped her.

What we hope to promote is a balanced mix of businesses that generate jobs and revenue for our local economy.

 

And who am I kidding, we also obviously want more customers for businesses.

LANDING GEAR ON PLANE COLLAPSES AT GILLESPIE FIELD

 


December 7, 2010 (El Cajon) – The landing gear collapsed on a Piper PA18 fixed-wing plane at Gillespie Field in El Cajon today, causing minor damage to the underside shortly after 3 p.m. There was no injury to the pilot and no passengers were on board.

TROLLEY LINE REOPENS AFTER MINOR COLLISION IN EL CAJON

 

December 7, 2010 (El Cajon) – A driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, rolling the front of the vehicle into the path of an oncoming trolley. The trolley struck the vehicle at North Marshall Avenue and Billy Mitchel in El Cajon, triggering a multi-agency response, Incident Page Network reported at 10:49 a.m. Fortunately, the driver was not injured.

DUO ROBS CRICKET WIRELESS STORE IN EL CAJON

 

December 7, 2010 (El Cajon) – Two men stole cash and phones from the Cricket Wireless Store at 1110 Broadway, El Cajon Police report. Police responded to a call around 6:10 p.m. from a witness who said she saw two masked men running from the store, according to Lt. Tim Henton.

HOPE FOR THE HOMELESS

December 3, 2010 (San Diego) – A new program is proving effective at helping chronically homeless people in San Diego County find permanent homes, get medical care and other support services needed to rebuild their lives.

 

Facilitated by United Way of San Diego County, the San Diego County Plan to End Chronic Homelessness (PTECH) has found permanent homes for 177 chronically homeless San Diegans in the past 17 months, including people in East County--and actually saved taxpayers money.

HIGHWAY 67 CLOSURE TODAY AND TONIGHT IN EAST COUNTY

 

November 22, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -Construction crews from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) have day and night work scheduled for State Route 67 (SR-67) on Tuesday. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. crews will close the southbound on-ramp at Magnolia Avenue. The northbound Bradley Avenue on-ramp and Prospect Avenue off-ramp will close along with the southbound Magnolia on-ramp.Then at 9 p.m. all lanes of State Route 67 between Prospect and Woodside Avenues will close.

SALUTE TO HEROES AT MOTHER GOOSE PARADE SUNDAY

 

November 20, 2010 (El Cajon)--The theme for the 64th Annual Mother Goose Parade on Sunday, November 21st, is a “Salute To Heroes!” A special World Memorial float will carry a New York Firefighter and an EMT, both disabled at 9/11, and a Port Authority Police Officer also survived the attacks at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Officer David Lim was among a handful of survivors found in "Stairwell B" after the collapse.

MAN KILLED RUNNING ACROSS FREEWAY IS IDENTIFIED

November 14, 2010 (El Cajon) – Anthony Watson, 22, of Spring Valley was struck and killed on November 10th when he attempted to run across the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 near State Route 67. He was hit by an SUV. Medics transported him to Sharp Memorial Hospital’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
