DUO ROBS CRICKET WIRELESS STORE IN EL CAJON

 

December 7, 2010 (El Cajon) – Two men stole cash and phones from the Cricket Wireless Store at 1110 Broadway, El Cajon Police report. Police responded to a call around 6:10 p.m. from a witness who said she saw two masked men running from the store, according to Lt. Tim Henton.

HOPE FOR THE HOMELESS

December 3, 2010 (San Diego) – A new program is proving effective at helping chronically homeless people in San Diego County find permanent homes, get medical care and other support services needed to rebuild their lives.

 

Facilitated by United Way of San Diego County, the San Diego County Plan to End Chronic Homelessness (PTECH) has found permanent homes for 177 chronically homeless San Diegans in the past 17 months, including people in East County--and actually saved taxpayers money.

JAZZ NIGHT AT GROSSMONT COLLEGE DEC. 5

 

November 29, 2010 (El Cajon)--Grossmont College Music Department will present “Jazz Night,” an evening of Grossmont College students performing a recital of various styles of jazz music, starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, in Room 220 on the Grossmont College campus. November 25, 2010 (El Cajon) – Alex Gilliam, Jr., 53, was struck and killed Tuesday evening by a westbound car while crossing the 500 block of East Chase Avenue in El Cajon on his motorized scooter.

HIGHWAY 67 CLOSURE TODAY AND TONIGHT IN EAST COUNTY

 

November 22, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -Construction crews from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) have day and night work scheduled for State Route 67 (SR-67) on Tuesday. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. crews will close the southbound on-ramp at Magnolia Avenue. The northbound Bradley Avenue on-ramp and Prospect Avenue off-ramp will close along with the southbound Magnolia on-ramp.Then at 9 p.m. all lanes of State Route 67 between Prospect and Woodside Avenues will close.

SALUTE TO HEROES AT MOTHER GOOSE PARADE SUNDAY

 

November 20, 2010 (El Cajon)--The theme for the 64th Annual Mother Goose Parade on Sunday, November 21st, is a “Salute To Heroes!” A special World Memorial float will carry a New York Firefighter and an EMT, both disabled at 9/11, and a Port Authority Police Officer also survived the attacks at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Officer David Lim was among a handful of survivors found in "Stairwell B" after the collapse.

JINGLE PAWS WALK & MORE DOG-GONE FUN DEC. 4

 

November 10, 2010 (El Cajon)--The Second Annual Jingle Paws Pet Walk and adoption event, sponsored by the ACES Foundation (Animal Center for Education and Services) and Camp Bow Wow, will be held on Saturday, December 4.  The event runs 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wells Park, 1153 E. Madison Avenue in El Cajon.

 

Following a brisk 9 a.m. walk around the park, pets and their owners can enjoy Santa's Village filled with fun pet  activities, vendors, goodies, and adoptable pets--just in time for the holidays.

MAN KILLED RUNNING ACROSS FREEWAY IS IDENTIFIED

November 14, 2010 (El Cajon) – Anthony Watson, 22, of Spring Valley was struck and killed on November 10th when he attempted to run across the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 near State Route 67. He was hit by an SUV. Medics transported him to Sharp Memorial Hospital’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

November 11, 2010 (El Cajon) – In honor of Veterans Day on November 11th, Supervisor Dianne Jacob will join the El Cajon Flag Committee for a flag display by Boy Scouts of America at 9:30 a.m. Congressman Duncan D. Hunter will also make an appearance at 5:30 p.m.

 

Both events are slated to take place at 250 E. Main Street in front of the courthouse and East County Performing Arts Center.

WOMAN FINDS INFANT’S BODY IN EL CAJON

 

Update November 1, 2010:  The San Diego Medical Examiner's office has found that the baby was stillborn and that no homicide occured.  The mother, who is mentally disabled, may not have been aware that she was pregnant and her family attempted to hide the body of the baby after she gave birth, authorities report.

October 29, 2010 (El Cajon) – The body of a full-term baby boy was found in a plastic bag in a backyard storage shed last night at 6:30 p.m. A woman resident found the bag while walking her dog in the backyard of her home in the 1100 block of Flamingo Avenue in rural El Cajon, ECM news partner 10 News reports.

NEW TAGGER HOTLINE NABS 3 IN FIRST DAY

 

October 27, 2010 (El Cajon)--Just hours after announcement of the new El Cajon Tagger Tip Line on Monday, an El Cajon resident saw a group of individuals using spray paint to vandalize the rear of a business. The reporting party kept watching the suspects as he called the El Cajon Police Department. He directed officers to the location of the vandals and three juveniles were arrested.
