HISTORIC LINDBERGH MURAL AND NEW CEDAR CREEK FALLS MURAL COMING TO RAMONA

May 16, 2016 (Ramona) – The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural project has already brought seven beautiful murals commemorating Ramona’s history to this town nestled in the mountains of San Diego’s East County.  Soon, two more murals of epic significance will be on display, thanks to a recent vote by Ramona’s Design Review Board approving the projects.

MISSING MAN’S CAR FOUND IN JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, DISAPPEARANCE DEEMED “SUSPICIOUS”

May 16, 2016 (Jacumba Hot Springs) – A Honda Civic belonging to a missing Buena Park man, Jonathan Barmaki, has been found by Border Patrol agents on Old Highway 80 near a welcome sign to Jacumba Hot Springs on May 9th. Agents found Barmaki's cherished 15-year-old dog, Andy,  dead inside the vehicle.

The vehicle was not out of gas and Barmaki’s wallet and keys were missing, though his cell phone, along with dog food and a dog bowl, were left in the car. The car windows were rolled up and footsteps from the vehicle led 70 feet to a border fence 25 feet high. Authorities are investigating the disappearance as"suspicious,"10 News reports.

ALPINE TAXPAYERS TO APPEAL GROSSMONT RULING

May 15, 2016 (Alpine) — An attorney representing the Alpine Taxpayers for Bond Accountability has told East County Magazine that his client is prepared to file an appeal if Judge Joel Pressman’s preliminary ruling setting aside a preliminary injunction against the Grossmont Union High School district stands.

SUSPECT WITH DEAD BODY IN BACKSEAT DIES AFTER POLICE CHASE, CRASH IN EL CAJON

May 14, 2016 (El Cajon) – The driver of a red Mazda truck is dead after fleeing from police and crashing into a tree shortly after midnight in El Cajon.  Officers attempting to render aid to the driver made a grisly discovery – a dead female in the backseat. Arriving paramedics reported that they believe the female was deceased before the collision and that her death was suspicious, said Lieutenant Rob Rainsweiler.

POLICE SEEK MEN IN GREEN FORD EXPLORER SUSPECTED IN HOME INVASION MURDER AT SAN CARLOS HOME

May 13, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – Brent Adler, 33, is dead of a gunshot wound after arriving at his San Carlos home and interrupting a home invasion robbery.  San Diego Police are seeking four or five men spotting fleeing the scene in the 8500 block of Tommy Drive in a green Ford Expedition Wednesday, May 11 around 2:50 p.m..

The victim suffered at least one gunshot wound to his upper body and was found dead in front of the residence.

Building inspectors found extensive building violations that have since been addressed.

SKIN SAFETY MEETING AT HEALTHCARE LIBRARY IN LA MESA

The program is part of the library’s Wellness Wednesday series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. Advance RSVP is not necessary. ELDER ABUSE SUSPECT ARRESTED

May 10, 2016 (La Mesa) -- Aaron Spaulding, a 31-year-old La Mesa man has been arrested and charged with elder abuse of his 78-year-old neighbor. The incident prompted a stand-off with Sheriff’s deputies at the family’s home on Alta Mira Drive near Mount Helix for several hours Monday night.

JUDGE RULES FOR GROSSMONT DISTRICT OVER ALPINE

 

Updated May 11: Plaintiffs issue statement saying they will appeal the ruling.

May 6, 2016 (Alpine) – A preliminary ruling by Superior Court Judge Joel Pressman would set aside a preliminary injunction against the Grossmont District. If the ruling stands, it will allow Grossmont to keep $42 million that had been set aside for an Alpine High School that the district never built. The money is a portion of bond measure funds approved by voters in part for the long-promised school.

The suit was filed by the Alpine Union School District and Alpine Taxpayers for Bond Accountability. The groups have 15 days to file an appeal.
