ASSAULT IN SPRING VALLEY

March 3, 2013 (Spring Valley) – Authorities seek information on an assault by four suspects that occurred last night in Spring Valley.  Lemon Grove Deputies responded at 8:52 p.m. of an assault with a deadly weapon at 9112 Kenwood Dr. in Spring Valley.

According to Sergeant V.J. Rivera, “There were four male Hispanic suspects involved and all were wearing mostly dark clothing. The victim got into a verbal confrontation with one of the suspects after the suspect kicked the victim's car, then it turned physical. During the physical altercation one of the suspects pulled out a knife and cut the victim on his forearm.”

POWAY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ARRESTED FOR THREATS AGAINST FELLOW STUDENT

March 1, 2013 (Poway) – A 14-year-old ninth grade student at Poway High School is in Juvenile Hall after reportedly making “terrorist threats" against a fellow student, Sargeant Chad Boudreau with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department said. 

Deputies learned last night about a verbal death threat made against another student at Poway High earlier in the day. According to a media release issued by the Sheriff, the student threatened to bring guns to school. The student who was threatened told his mother about the incident when he came home from school and the parent notified the school’s principal.

SWAT TEAM ENDS STAND-OFF WITH SWORD-WIELDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUSPECT

 

February 27, 2013 (El Cajon) – SWAT team officers used tear gas to end a six-hour standoff and arrest Ennis Staten, 37, a domestic violence suspect who allegedly battered his wife, then threatened to kill himself and stab officers. 

El Cajon Police officers responded to a report of domestic violence at 353 Dominguez in El Cajon last night at 11:04 p.m. last night (Feb. 26), where a woman told them her husband had struck her repeatedly. Officers found her outside the apartment, suffering from facial injuries. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

RAMONA RESIDENT ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN SEPTEMBER SHOOTING CASE

February 27, 2013 (Ramona) – Miles Lockhart, 52, has been arrested for the murder of Shane Tatro, 38.  Tato died on September 16 of a single shotgun wound during an altercation over the purchase of marijuana outside Lockhart’s residence, according to Captain Duncan Fraser with the San Diego Sheriff.

SWAT TEAM DEPLOYED FOR DRUG BUST IN RAMONA

February 23, 2013 (Ramona) –Three men were arrested early February 22 in Ramona following a SWAT operation that led to the seizure of $15,000 worth of marijuana, plus a firearm and $17000 cash.

“The suspects had fortified the residence with a steel security screen door, steel gates and an aggressive dog,” said Sergeant B. Hout with the San Diego Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s detectives from the Ramona substation, with assistance form the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT team), served a warrant at a residence at 312 Fegahli Road around 6 a.m. Thursday.  The search warrant was the result of a month-long narcotics operation.

TWO TEENS ARRESTED IN 7-11 ARMED ROBBERY SERIES

February 20, 2013 (San Diego’s East County)—El Cajon Police today announced the arrest of Forrest Gunner Fermil and Kailee Ray, both 18, in connection with three armed robberies within an hour on February 18 committed by a masked man.

The suspects were arrested in the 10000 block of Vista Parque in Lakeside at 3 p.m. today. After developing a promising lead, El Cajon Police workined in junction with investigators from the Santee Sheriff’s Station and located the first suspect.

February 19, 2013 (El Cajon)--The El Cajon Police Traffic division is now investigating a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian tonight. A male pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing mid-block along Avocado Avenue near Carter Street just after 6:00 p.m. this evening. Avocado Avenue was closed between Chase Avenue and Washington Avenue for the investigation.

MAN ACCUSED OF RAPING LA MESA WOMAN HE MET VIA CHRISTIAN DATING SITE

February 17, 2013 (La Mesa) –Del Mar resident Sean Patrick Banks is accused of raping a La Mesa woman who he met through ChristianMingle.com, an online dating site. Police say he used several aliases on the site and has traveled considerably, leading to concerns that there could be other victims.

He is free on bail, after pleading not guilty to sexual assault and burglary charges, ECM news partner 10 News reports. Banks also reportedly used the names Rarity, Ryan Butterwood, and Ryan Harlough online.

Lt. Matt Nicholass with La Mesa Police has said that Banks was invited to the victim’s home and “ultimately ended up raping her.” The dating site cooperated with authorities to track Banks down, he added.

MASKED MAN ROBS 7-11 IN RANCHO SAN DIEGO AT GUNPOINT

February 16, 2013 (Rancho San Diego) – At 1:33 a.m.,  deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station responded to an armed robbery at the 7-11 store  at 1498 Jamacha Road in unincorporated El Cajon.

“The suspect in the robbery was a male, wearing a black jacket and jeans. The race of the suspect is unknown because he was wearing a mask,” said Sergeant V.J. Rivera.

AUTHORITIES SEEK TIPS TO NAB SERIAL ROBBER STRIKING 7-11 STORES ACROSS EAST COUNTY

February 18, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – A string of 7-11 daytime robberies have been committed by a masked suspect in the past several days.The suspect may be armed with a handgun.

Two robberies occurred yesterday in unincorporated El Cajon at 3 a.m. and 3:12 a.m. The most recent occurred  at the 7-11 on Lake Jennings Road near I-8. The suspect wore  a red mask, gloves and a hood.  Another occurred at Jamacha and Chase a day or so earlier, Lt. Scott Amos with the San Diego Sheriff’s department indicated.  In addition, a similar crime occurred in a neighboring jurisdiction, he added.

SHERIFF NOTIFIES RESIDENTS OF VIOLENT SEX OFFENDER IN VALLEY CENTER

 

February 15, 2013 (Valley Center)-- Sheriff's Deputies went door to door in Valley Center this morning to inform the community about a former Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) now living in their neighborhood. Mark William PLISKA reported to the Valley Center Sheriff's Substation on February 6th. He is now living at 15236 Woods Valley Road #41, Valley Center. 

Deputies and members of the SAFE or Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force notified 110 homes within a half-mile radius of Pliska's mobile home. Deputies also notified the principals of Valley Center Elementary and Valley Center Middle Schools, which were closest to Pliska's residence. Pliska relocated to Valley Center from Escondido. He is current with his registration and a county probation officer will monitor his compliance.

EAST COUNTY REGIONAL GANG TASK FORCE SEEKS PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE TO LOCATE “RED MENACE” FUGITIVES

 

February 15, 2013 (San Diego)--The East County Regional Gang Task Force (ECRGTF) is seeking the public’s assistance to locate three fugitives who were charged with 30 other defendants on federal charges of possessing and distributing methamphetamine.

The 33 defendants were charged via federal indictments, case number 13cr0491-GPC and 13cr0492-GPC, with violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 846 – conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1) – possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF TEEN GIRL REPORTED IN LA MESA

February 12, 2013 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police warn that a 14-year-old girl riding her bicycle home on Dallas Street near Nagle Street this evening reports that a man in a white pickup truck jumped out of his vehicle and tried to kidnap her this evening.

Police responded at 6:23 p.m.  According to the victim, the man wore a red and white jacket and black baseball cap with logo. He is described as mixed race, 20-30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium stocky build.  He drove a newer, medium-sized white pickup with white camper shell.

STUDENT ARRESTED AFTER THREATENING MASS SHOOTING AT POWAY SCHOOL

February 10, 2013 (Poway) – A 12-year-old student at Twin Peaks Middle School has been arrested after sending an e-mail to an administrator Friday night threatening to shoot 23 students and a teacher at the school on Monday, February 11.

According to the  San Diego County Sheriff's department, the e-mail also claimed the student had access to numerous firearms and 3,000 rounds of ammunition. Yesterday, a search of the student’s home found numerous rifles and handguns along with computers, ECM news partner 10 News reports.

SPRING VALLEY SHOOTING VICTIM HOSPITALIZED

February 10, 2013 (Spring Valley)—A victim shot multiple times outside Fannie’s Bar in Spring Valley shortly after midnight has been transported from Grossmont Hospital to Sharp Memorial Hospital.  Details on his condition are not available, said Sergeant James Blanton with the San Diego Sheriff.

At 12:08 a.m., the Sheriff's Department received 911 calls concerning gunshots being fired outside Fannie's Bar, located at 9143 Campo Road in Spring Valley. Upon arriving, deputies contacted several patrons inside the bar, as well as possible witnesses outside the bar.

Vehicle found in Poway; sighting in Lakeside believed to be a hoax

February, 8 2013 (San Diego)--Police agencies all over the state of California are on high alert.   The manhunt for Christopher Dorner, 33, a former Los Angeles police officer  wanted for three murders in the L.A. area, has spanned multiple counties including San Diego.  Citizens across Southern California are asked to not engage and call 911.  Dorner is considered extremely dangerous and well armed.

He has threatened additional violence and released a manifesto accusing L.A. Police Department of corruption, other misconduct as well as wrongful firing. ECM news partner 10 News has an edited copy of it, with names removed.

LA MESA POLICE SERGEANT BITTEN BY POLICE K-9 FROM EL CAJON

 

February 7, 2013 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police Sergeant Michael Pierce sustained lacerations to his left arm and wrist from a bite by a police canine during a search for a suspect on February 4. At 7:49 p.m. La Mesa Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 8200 block of Orchard Avenue, where a suspect reportedly had threatened his brother with a hammer. An El Cajon Police K-9 responded to assist in searching for the suspect.

CHICKEN RANCH OWNER, 12 OTHERS ARRESTED IN BURGLARY RING

 

$44,000 in stolen property seized along with explosives, drugs, guns, and stolen cars

February 6, 2013 (Ramona) – Mark Ertman, an ex-convict, has been arrested along with 12 others after a search warrant found stolen property at his residence at 2411 San Vicente Road in Ramona. 

“The property, known as the "Chicken Ranch," was used by a burglary ring operating in the East County to conceal and dismantle stolen property,” Sergeant B. Hout with the San Diego Sheriff said.  “The ring is believed to be responsible for over 20 burglaries during the course of the last year.”

The burglaries ranged from early morning residential hot prowls to commercial burglaries targeting the Girl Scouts of America.

EL CAJON POLICE SEEK LEADS IN FATAL DOG SHOOTING

February 6, 2013 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon Police are asking for the public's help to identify a suspect in the shooting of a dog in the 600 block of Millar Avenue last night. A witness reported hearing a shot at 7:55 p.m. and saw a medium-sized, mixed breed dog run about 25 yards before collapsing.  A vehicle was leaving the area, but the witness saw only headlights.

It is unknown who owned the dog, which did not have a collar but appeared to be clean and well kept, said Lt. Mark Coit.

The El Cajon Police Department is investigating this cruelty to animals crime.  There is no suspect or vehicle description at this time.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311.

THIRD ARREST MADE IN JAMUL MURDER, ARSON CASE

 

February 2, 2013 (Jamul)--Yesterday, the San Diego Sheriff announced the arrest of Quincy Sharp, 20, as an accessory to the murder of Dillon Davis. Davis’ body was found in the trunk of a burning vehicle on Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul on September 20, 2012. 

Two other suspects have previously been arrested and charged with murder: Miles Sharp (Quincy’s brother) and Devin Gaillard.

CHP SEEKS WITNESSES TO CRASH THAT KILLED VW DRIVER IN SANTEE ON DEC 29

 

January 31, 2013 (Santee) – California Highway Patrol is looking for two people who reportedly stopped  to provide aid at the scene of a fatal collision on eastbound State Route 52 near Mast Boulevard on December 29, 2012.

According to witnesses, two males stopped to help the driver of a Chevy 2500 HD, and then left the scene before contacting officers.  The Chevy had collided with a tan Volkswagen beetle.  The driver of the Volkswagen sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

SECOND ARREST IN JAMUL MURDER, ARSON CASE

 

January 31, 2013 (Jamul) –Devin Gaillard has been arrested and charged with murder and arson.  Another suspect, Miles Sharp, was arrested January 25 on the same charges.  Both men have been booked in connection with the death of Dillon A. Davis, 20, whose body was found in the trunk of a burning vehicle on Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul on September 20, 2012.

SHOOTING IN EL CAJON

January 31, 2013 (El Cajon) -- A shooting in El Cajon may be gang related, Lt. Frank LaHaye with the El Cajon Police Department said.  A 21-year-old victim from San Diego and two companions were involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown suspect at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 26 when the shooting occurred in the 400 block of N. Magnolia. The suspect is described as a black male, age 16 to 21, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build.

The victim has been hospitalized for treatment of his injury.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this shooting is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.

CLERK INJURED IN LIQUOR STORE ROBBERY IN LA MESA

January 29, 2013 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police offers responding to a robbery report at Sierra Market, 3834 Massachusetts Avenue, at 8:34 p.m. last night found a 68-year-old clerk bleeding from a wound to his head.

The clerk told officers he was behind the cash counter when a black male with a goatee wearing a curly blond wig entered the store holding a handgun.  The suspect walked behind the counter, where he was confronted by the clerk.  A struggle ensued and the suspect used his handgun to hit the clerk on the head.  The suspect demanded that the clerk open the cash register. While the suspect was filling his pockets with money, the clerk struck the suspect on the back of the head with a liquor bottle.

CHILD ABDUCTION: 4-YEAR-OLD GIRL TAKEN BY MOTHER WITH TROUBLED PAST

Update January 28, 2013: Resa White has returned Amya to a babysitter;  the child is now safe and home with her grandmother.

January 27, 2013— Chula Vista Police seek public help to locate a 4-year-old girl abducted by her mother.  The missing child, Amya White, is African-American and was wearing a yellow raincoat and black pants when taken from her grandmother’s home yesterday at 4:30 p.m.

The mother, Resa Carolyn White, 21, has a history of drug abuse and is known to rely on bus transportation. She was last seen wearing a black top, black leggings and Ugg-style boots.  She is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds.  Note: the photo at left is the most recently, but her hair is now black and straight. 

The suspect lost custody of her two children, who were being raised by their grandmother at 2150 Caminito Leonzio in Chula Vista.

CHP WARNS DISTRACTED DRIVERS: YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. IT’S NOT WORTH IT

 

January 27, 2013 (Sacramento)--Distracted driving is a serious safety concern for all drivers throughout California, especially teen drivers.  Eighty percent of vehicle crashes involve some kind of driver distraction. Talking on the cell phone or texting is the main source of driver distraction.  The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is urging teenage drivers to stop texting, put away cell phones, and focus on driving.  In an effort save lives, CHP along with Impact Teen Drivers will be conducting a year-long teen distracted driving traffic safety campaign through September 2013.

MENTAL PATIENT ARRESTED FOR HATE CRIME, ARSON IN BURNING OF GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH IN EL CAJON

January 27, 2013 (El Cajon)- San Diego Sheriff today announced the arrest of Darin Williams in connection to an early morning fire that caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to St. Gregory of Nyssa Greek Orthodox Christian Church in the unincorporated area of El Cajon.  Williams s charged with arson, burglary and a hate crime, said Sergeant E. J. Dayitt.

The suspect was released last week from a psychiatric institution and became upset when the church’s priest, Simeon Corona, told him he could no longer stay at a parishioner’s home if he woud not take his medications,  U-T San Diego reports.  The priest called Williams, 38,  a “troubled man.”

WANTED: ATM ROBBERY SUSPECT IN SANTEE AND RANCHO SAN DIEGO

January 24, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – Take a good look at these surveillance photos. This man is wanted in connection with three ATM robberies in Santee.

The first incident happened January 16th just before 11:00 p.m. Armed with a gun, he approached a man at a Mission Federal Credit Union ATM on Town Center Parkway and demanded money. The second incident happened on January 21st at the same location. He approached a woman and placed a hand into his waistband simulating he had a weapon. The woman ran to her car and the suspect drove away. The third incident happened on the same day at a Wells Fargo ATM on Jamacha Road in unincorporated El Cajon. He had a gun and approached a man demanding money. He then grabbed the money and drove away.

BODY FOUND IN BURNED TRUCK IN VALLECITO PARK

January 23, 2013 (Borrego Springs) – Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a body found inside a burned truck in Vallecito County Regional Park. 

A County park ranger made the grisly discovery yesterday around 10 a.m. in the park, located at 37349 County Route S-2 (Great Southern Overland State Route) in Borrego Springs, Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.

Cause and manner of death, as well as identification of the deceased will be determined by the County Medical Examiner.
