County Health Officials Notify Residents

The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is reporting that a bat found at a condominium complex in Del Cerro has tested positive for rabies. The sick bat was found on Nov. 23 by a building maintenance worker at the Adobe Falls Condominium Complex located at 5485 Adobe Falls Road in San Diego.

November 18, 2011 (San Diego)--County health officials today urged residents to throw out Ready Pac bagged salad products containing romaine lettuce and stamped with a “Use by” Nov. 18 date because they may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. November 16, 2011 (San Diego) – Raw milk products produced by Organic Pastures have been recalled and quarantined statewide by the California Department of Public Health after five children who drank the milk became infected with the same strain of E.coli. A San Diego County child was among those stricken.

November 5, 2011(San Diego) – Councilmember Marti Emerald says San Diego needs to recover its costs for use of the City’s medical/rescue helicopters. So she is asking Congress for federal permission to allow the city to charge patients for costs of treatment and rescue services. Emerald says the move is needed to assure rescue helicopters are available when needed.

October 15, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – The Republican-controlled House this week passed a restrictive measure that would let hospitals refuse to provide an abortion even if urgently needed to save a woman’s life.

“The misnamed Protect Life Act is about allowing women to die if they need an emergency abortion,” said Meghan Rhoad at Human Rights Watch. “It is a vicious attack on women’s rights and on the most basic right to life.”

Local Republicans Duncan Hunter, Brian Bilbray, and Darrell Issa voted for the bill, H.R. 358, while San Diegio Democrats Bob Filner and Susan Davis voted against it.

Games aim to make it fun for kids to learn how they can help prevent the disease

October 9, 2011 (San Diego)--Now, learning how to “Fight the Bite” and protect yourself from West Nile virus can be fun, says the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health. The agency has created a new website, http://www.SDSwatTeam.com, and two specially-created video games to let kids (and even adults) play while learning about protecting themselves and others from West Nile virus, the potentially-deadly disease that is spread by mosquitoes.
