Update: Cal-Fire is assisting the U.S. Forest Service with crews, engines, planes and helicopters. "Good progress" is being made, said Cal-Fire's Roxanne Provaznik. Planes and one of the helicopters have been dismissed.

September 3, 2012 (San Diego's East County) -- A fully engulfed car fire has sparked a brush fire on I-8 at Buckman Springs that IPN reports is five acres and spreading rapidly. 

An incident commander has indicated that if the blaze reaches the top of the ridge line, the wildfire has potential to reach 1,000 acres. Air tankers have been requested.

September 3, 2012 (Lakeside)- Despite scorching heat at the Barona baseball field, the annual powwow continued on from August 31-September 2. There were booths with food, hand crafted jewelry, contests for dancing, singing, and a drum contest. Over $60,000 in prize money was up for grabs.

Emcee Tom Phillips led the festivities, announcing the gourd dancing that took place on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, as well as all three evenings, and a grand entry took place nightly.

The collision occurred around 1.a.m. on eastbound I-8, east of Fairmont Avenue, CHP reported.

September 1, 2012 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police officers responded to 911 calls at noon today reporting that a man armed with a crowbar was chasing another man in the 500 block of East Main Street. When the first officer arrived and exited his vehicle, the suspect, armed with the metal bar, charged at the officer.

September 1, 2012 (El Cajon) –  Able Torres, 29, has been arrested and charged with murder following a stabbing death in EL Cajon at 11 p.m. last night. The identity of the victim, 18, has not yet been released by authorities.

September 1, 2012 (San Diego) – San Diego Police request public help to locate C. Fantozzi, 41.  He was last seen on August 28 at 3719 42nd Street in San Diego. 

According to the SDPD bulletin, “Fantozzi is very depressed over a recent divorce and lives in an assisted living facility for his depression.”  He walked away from the residence and has been known for walk for many miles a day.
