The move makes Petco the first and only major retailer of pet food and treats to take a stand against such ingredients, reaffirming the company’s commitment to being the lifelong, trusted partner – for pets and pet parents, alike.

November 14, 2018 (Sacramento)  A key statewide race has flipped, with the counting of late mail-in and provisional ballots. Assemblyman Tony Thurmond, a social worker, has pulled ahead in the State Superintendent race. Thurmond now leads over Marshall Tuck by around 74,000 votes and a full percentage point.

November 14, 2018 (Washington D.C.) -- Hate crimes  rose 17% nationwide last year over the year before, according to data released by the FBI under the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. This is third year in a row that hate crimes have risen in the U.S.

November 13, 2018 (Santa Clara) - The San Diego State women’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the 2018-19 season with a 60-43 loss at Santa Clara Tuesday afternoon.

The Aztecs shot just 27 percent from the field and failed to make a three-pointer. They were led by Téa Adams’ 10 points. Mallory Adams chipped in nine and Sophia Ramos had eight.

November 13, 2018 (El Cajon) – The Mother Goose Parade, El Cajon’s most cherished tradition for 72 years, will roll out on Sunday, November 18th starting at 1 p.m. in downtown EL Cajon.   

The theme this year is “The Sky’s The Limit!”  The parade’s Grand Marshal Tom Rice, a 96 year-old World War II Veteran and a former Army paratrooper.  He flew over the skies of Normandy on D-Day on June 6, 1944, as part of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, called the “Screaming Eagles.” He's been awarded both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart!

In addition to elaborate floats, marching bands, giant inflatable balloon characters, clowns and equestrian entries, there’s also a star-studded cast of child and adult celebrities in the line-up.

Topping the list are Brandon Tyler Russell, best known for his role as Dr. Gregory Williams (aka Baby George/Baby O’Malley) on Grey’s Anatomy, Colton Shires from the daytime soap “Passions,” and two-time Emmy Award winner Vincent DePaul best known for his role as Father Leon on The Bay, British feature film star Scott Butler. MAN FATALLY SHOT IN ALPINE BY DEPUTIES

November 12, 2018 (Alpine) – Sheriff’s deputies were called by an employee in the Summit at Alpine apartment complex who reported a man threatening to kill someone. Deputies arrived eight minutes later and report that the man charged at them with a knife. Multiple deputies fired shots, killing the suspect.

SDG&E OPENS 4 COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTERS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT DURING OUTAGES AND RED FLAG WARNINGS

November 12, 2018 (San Diego's East County) -- With the multi-day Red Flag Warning in effect through Tuesday, Nov. 13, 5 p.m., SDG&E has opened four of our nine Community Resource Centers to support residents who may lose power because of the extreme weather conditions.

  1. Mountain Empire – Mountain Empire High School Gymnasium, 3305 Buckman Springs Road, Campo CA 91906
  2. Potrero – Potrero Resource Center, 24550 Hwy 94, Potrero, CA 91963
  3. Descanso – Camp Oliver Lodge, 8761 Riverside Drive A, Descanso, CA 91916

Herrick Community Health Care Library, a consumer health library at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, is now presenting its Fall Art Exhibit titled “Personal Impressions.” The collaborative exhibit showcases 20 paintings, including eight paintings by La Mesa resident Maureen Parker and 12 paintings by Parker’s art teacher, Kay Norris Carlin of San Diego. The exhibit runs through the end of December.

November 10, 2018 (La Mesa) – Clayton Marlow Anderson, Jr., former La Mesa attorney disbarred in 2015, was sentenced Friday to serve 18 months in federal prison for defrauding clients and investors. He was also ordered to pay over $1.5 million in restitution to his victims.

AIRPLANE CRASHES IN RAMONA, NO INJURIES

November 10, 2018 (Ramona) -- A small plane crashed into a field west of the Ramona airport shortly before 8 a.m today and caught fire, but fortunately the pilot and a passenger escaped unharmed.

According to Cal. Fire/County Fire Authority, the fire was swiftly doused without spreading to adjacent brushy areas.
