October 10, 2018 (Washington D.C.) – Walmart is recalling over a quarter of million axes sold nationwide after two reports of axe heads coming off the handles, causing minor injuries, the U.S. Product Safety Commission reports. The axes, made by Ozark Trail, were sold between January 2017 and July 2018 .

RECALLED GROUND BEEF WAS SOLD AT MAJOR RETAIL STORES

September 26, 2018 (San Diego) – The U.S. Department of Agricultural and Cargill Meat Solutions have recalled over 132,000 pounds of ground beef products sold at major retailers nationwide. In California, stores that sold the tainted meat include Target, Vons, Safeway/Albertson’s, Central Meat & Provision Co. in San Diego, and Pak N Save.

PRIUS RECALLED DUE TO FIRE DANGER

September 5, 2018 (San Diego's East County) - Toyota has ordered a recall of some Prius hybrid vehicles  made between June 2015 and May 2018, due to an electrical system defect that can cause fires.

Wire harnesses connected to the vehicles’ power control units can wear out and overheat, causing fires. The company reports it will fix the problem free and will notify customers starting this month.

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS RECALLED; MAY CAUSE “UNINTENDED PREGNANCY”

May 31, 2018 (San Diego) — Taytulla birth control pills made by Allergan have been recalled by the manufacturer nationwide.  The sample packages distributed by doctors are supposed to include pills with hormones for 24 days, as well as four placebo pills without hormones.

AVOID ALL ROMAINE LETTUCE, CDC ADVISES

April 23, 2018 (San Diego) - The Centers for Disease Control has broadened its health warning regarding e-coli cases linked to romaine lettuce.  

The federal health agency is now advising consumers to avoid all forms of romaine lettuce, including lettuce heads, chopped romaine and salad mixes that may contain romaine, unless you are certain that the lettuce was not grown in Yuma, Arizona.

INSTANT POTS SOLD AT WALMART HAVE DANGEROUS DEFECT

March 1, 2018 (San Diego) – Instant Pot Gem multicookers sold only at Walmart have resulted in 107 reports of overheating including five that caused property damage, 10 News reports.

KTNV in Las Vegas investigated after viewing photos on Facebook posted by an Instant Pot user who said the bottom of the machine melted and burned wires after just four uses.  The station contacted the manufacturer, which confirmed there have been other complaints.

HOVERBOARDS RECALLED DUE TO FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS

November 15, 2017 (Washington D.C.) – If your child’s holiday wish list includes a hoverboard, you may want to tell Santa to think twice before delivering one.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued seven more hoverboard recalls Tuesday due to fire and explosion hazards.  The Commission has previously recalled many other hoverboard models.

AUNT JEMIMA PANCAKES, WAFFLES AND FRENCH TOAST RECALLED

May 6, 2017 (San Diego's East County) - A New Jersey company is recalling Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, waffles and French toast due to a listeria contamination.

Pinnacle Foods issued the recall Friday night.  It affects products distributed in the United States and Mexico, but does not include dry mixes and syrups.

SABRA RECALLS DOZENS OF HUMMUS PRODUCTS DUE TO LISTERIA CONTAMINATION

November 20, 2016 (San Diego) – The Sabra company has announced a voluntary recall of its hummus dip products after finding Listeria Monocytognes at the manufacturing facility, but not in tested finished product.

Consumers with any product with a "Best Before" date up through January 23, 2017 are urged to discard it. You can find code and "Best Before" date on the lid of each package. The recall includes all hummus products by Sabra except not organic hummus. The recall does not include other Sabra products such as guacamole, salsa, or Greek yogurt dip.

June 30, 2016 (Washington D.C.) -- New test data on a particular subset of defective Takata air bag inflators in certain model-year 2001-2003 Honda and Acura vehicles show a far higher risk of ruptures during air bag deployment, prompting an urgent call from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to ensure that unrepaired vehicles in this population are found and fixed before they cause further injuries or fatalities.

April 24, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) - Several brands of frozen peas, corn and mixed vegetables have been recalled from stores throughout California due to possible contamination with Listeria, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections particularly in young children and the elderly.  The bacteria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, according to the FDA.

GRACO RECALLS CLASSIC WOOD HIGHCHAIRS DUE TO FALL HAZARD

October 15, 2012 (San Diego) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Graco Children’s Products Inc., has recalled about 86,000 Graco Classic Wood Highchairs.  The highchair’s seat can loosen or detach from the base, posing a fall hazard to a child.  Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately and call Graco for a free repair kit.
