July  29, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Medical Association has awarded long-time local physician Dr. Richard O. Butcher, an El Cajon resident, its prestigious Practitioner of the Year Award.

Dr. Butcher, 76, is an institution in San Diego’s medical, philanthropic and sports communities. He’s been in private practice in Southeastern San Diego for decades. He is president of the Care View Medical Group and past Chief of Staff at Alvarado Hospital. He’s also past president of the San Diego Medical Association and has served on many boards.

July 28, 2015 (La Mesa) – The San Diego East County Chaldean-American Chamber of Commerce will host its second Meet Your Candidates Night on Wednesday, August 5 from 6-7 pm.. at Sammy's Woodfire Pizza, 8555 Fletcher Parkway, La Mesa 91942.

Assemblyman Brian Jones, who is running for State Senate, and Randy Voepel, Santee Mayor and candidate for the Assembly seat Jones will vacate next year due to term limits, will be speaking.

July 28, 2015 (Lakeside) – The County’s Hazardous Materials team has condemned a  residence at 9120 Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside , declaring it uninhabitable due to chemicals from illegal drugs found during a law enforcement raid.

July 28, 2015 (Ramona) - If you suffered damage from flooding, mudslides and heavy rain during the storm July 18 and 19, the County has set up a Local Assistance Center at the Ramona Library, located at 1275 Main Street in Ramona. It will remain open through August 1^st to provide recovery information for residents and business owners in need of help.

July 28, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) - Here’s an event that happens only once in a blue moon. The County’s Parks and Recreation department is offering a free Sunset-Blue Moon hike at Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve  in Julian on Friday, July 31 starting at 6:45 p.m.  Bring a flashlight and a sense of adventure for the two-mile hike on Five Oaks Trail to the summit for views of Julian at sunset before making your way back under a shimmering blue moon. (Which is not actually blue, by the way. That's just the nickname for the second of two full moons in one calendar month.)

July 27, 2015 (El Cajon ) – El Cajon Police are looking for the driver of a black Mercedes sedan who fled the scene after striking a fire hydrant near the intersection of Ballantyne Street and Madison Avenue in El Cajon on Monday.  The collision caused a 40-foot-high water geyser that damaged several trees nearby, but did not damage homes.

July 26, 2015 (Spring Valley ) – Shortly after midnight Saturday morning, July 25^th, Sheriff’s deputies from the Rancho San Diego station responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment at 1034 Leland Street.  Deputies found a 55-year-old man inside who had suffered a gunshot wound to his legs.

July 22, 2015 (Jamul)--The County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health (DEH) has issued a Boil Water Order and Public Notification for the Indian Hills Camp located at 15763 Lyons Valley Road, Jamul, CA 91935, effective immediately.  The water system serves 9 mobile homes, 15 recreational vehicle spaces, 2 dorms, 15 camp sites, 4 public restrooms with showers, 2 swimming pools, a kitchen and office building.

July 20, 2015 (Jacumba Hot Springs) -- Gary Gene Snavely, a sexually violent predator, has violated the terms of his release and has been removed from Jacumba Hot Springs.  He is now in the Sheriff’s Department custody and may be returned to a state hospital.

Supervisor Dianne Jacob issued this strong statement at the news.  “This monster never belonged in the community in the first place,” Jacob says. “Word that he violated the terms of his release comes as no surprise and is the latest proof that sexually violent predators have no place in Jacumba Hot Springs or any other community. What makes this even more outrageous is that it’s not the first time Snavely has broken the rules of his placement,” adds Jacob, who calls for Snavely to be “locked up for good.”
