December 28, 2019 (San Diego) -  The Aztec women’s basketball team (6-8) lost to CSUN (4-9) 74-69 in overtime Saturday afternoon. In a game that was close throughout, neither team ever led by more than six points before CSUN prevailed in overtime.

December 21, 2019 (Albuquerque) - Coming into the New Mexico Bowl, San Diego State's defense was the focus. The Aztecs ranked second in the nation in rushing defense and second in rushing yards allowed per carry. But San Diego State's offense, with only an average of 19 points-per game, ranked among the nation's worst. Something had to give against Central Michigan and its strong defense.

So the Aztecs offense stepped it up Saturday.

SDSU struggled on the glass and with turnovers but kept the Toreros in striking distance for the majority of the game. However, USD put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Aztecs 23-11.

December 7, 2019 (San Jose) - The Aztec women’s basketball team (4-6, 1-1) fell to San Jose State (7-3, 2-0) 84-67 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Kalmer and Sophia Ramos each posted season-highs to lead SDSU in scoring. Kalmer finished with a career-high 22 points and Sophia Ramos stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Baylee Vanderdoes recorded a double-double as well, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds.

November 23, 2019 ( - San Diego State’s diving team closed out competition at the NAU Diving Invitational Saturday. The Aztecs secured two spots on the podium in the 3-meter diving contest.

Sophomore Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez lead SDSU for the second straight day, earning the Aztecs’ top finish in competition with a preliminary heat score of 306.65 and a finals core of 293.50. Senior Marie Yacopino secured her second bronze finish of the invite with a prelim mark of 288.10 and a finals score of 292.60, both season-best marks. Sophomore Gillian Garcia rounded out the top-five finishers with a preliminary score of 274.15 and a finals mark of 283.55. Sophomores Gina Cazares and Lexi Lets alongside junior Erica Sarver tallied seventh, ninth, and tenth-place marks with combined heat scores of 523.95, 490.75, and 473.80, respectively.

November 22, 2019 (Columbia, Mo./Flagstaff) - San Diego State’s swimming team finished its time at the Mizzou Invite while the diving team completed day one of the NAU Diving Invite Friday. The Aztecs’ swimmers placed third out of 13 teams in Missouri with 585 points, while the diving squad swept the podium in the platform diving competition and collected second and third-place finishes in the 1-meter contest at the NAU Invite.

JIMMIE JOHNSON RACES INTO HISTORY, ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

November 20, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – Jimmie Johnson, who made history after winning a seven NASCAR Sprint championships, has announced he is on track to retire next year.  A native of East County honored as a hometown hero locally, Johnson posted a video titled “#Chasing 8  one final time” on his Twitter feed to announce his final season.

In the video, he states, “I’m so thankful for 18 incredible years of racing in NASCAR. The sport has been good to me. It has allowed me to do something I truly love. I showed up chasing a dream and achieved more than I ever thought possible. I’m looking forward to next season and celebrating what will be my last year as a full-time NASCAR Cup driver. November 17, 2019 (San Diego) - The Aztec women’s basketball team (3-2) defeated Cal State Fullerton (2-2) 55-45 inside Viejas Arena Sunday afternoon.

In a defensive battle, the Aztecs outlasted the Titans by holding them to 28 percent shooting from the field and 15 percent from three. SDSU outrebounded Cal State Fullerton 51-41, led by Mallory Adams’ 12 boards.

The Aztecs placed 31st (out of 35) and were led by Steele Canyon alum Carlene Masar who finished in 21:44.5 (111th), a new career-best 6k time.
