In a statement released today, the team announced that the decision was made by Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler and managing partner Peter Seidler.

October 9, 2016 (San Diego) - Donnel Pumphrey had 198 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, Rashaad Penny added 160 scrimmage yards and two TDs, and San Diego State beat UNLV 26-7 on Saturday night.

Pumphrey ran 31 times for 141 yards and caught seven passes for 57 yards. His 26th career 100-yard rushing game tied DonTrell Moore (New Mexico, 2002-05) for the Mountain West Conference record.

October 8, 2016 (San Diego) - Aztecs men’s soccer played in its third Pac-12 match of the season tonight against #13 UCLA.

After a quiet first half, it was UCLA who struck first in the 63rd minute of the second half on a nice goal by Jose Hernandez and the Bruins took a 1-0 lead to the 90th minute to win it.

With the win SDSU improved to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West and it moved into a tie for third place in the conference standings.

October 6, 2016 (El Cajon) - San Diego Chargers minority owner George Pernicano passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home in El Cajon, California early Thursday.  He was 98. 

Pernicano was one of the five original San Diego Chargers minority owners who purchased interest in the team in 1963.  He helped Jack Murphy and other prominent San Diegans convince Barron Hilton, the owner of the Los Angeles Chargers, to bring the team to San Diego in 1961.
