Aztec senior picks up third career All-America honor

December 7, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey was named a 2016 Sporting News Second-Team All-American, the publication announced Wednesday. The Aztec senior was one of just four running backs to appear on both the first and second-team lists, which included 26 players apiece.

December 6, 2016 (El Cajon) - The Valhalla High School boys’ soccer team is off to a hot start with a 6-0 win over El Capitan High.  Tonight, they faced the Patriots of Patrick Henry High School.

UPDATE:  Aztecs will play Houston in the 2016 Las Vegas Bowl on December 17 at 12:30 p.m. on ABC

December 3, 2016 (Laramie, Wyoming) - Today was the day.  Everything the Aztecs have worked for all season came down to this.  The Mountain West conference championship game against Wyoming.  The Aztecs were in Laramie two weeks ago and lost 34-33.  Now, it was time for revenge.

December 2, 2016 (San Diego) - In his first deal since his suspension for submitting false records to the Boston Red Sox during pitcher Drew Pomeranz's trade, Padres general manager A.J. Preller has traded catcher Derek Norris to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Pedro Avila.

November 29, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State senior Donnel Pumphrey (Las Vegas), senior Damontae Kazee (San Bernardino, Calif.) and junior Rashaad Penny (Norwalk, Calif.) have each been named players of the year by the Mountain West for the second consecutive season, the league announced today. Pumphrey was chosen as the MW Offensive Player of the Year, Kazee the MW Defensive Player of the Year and Penny the MW Special Teams Player of the Year.

November 27, 2016 (South Orange, N.J.) - The San Diego State women’s basketball team shot 60.4 percent from the floor to beat Central Connecticut State University, 80-62, at the Seton Hall Thanksgiving Classic Sunday afternoon.

SDSU will play either Seton Hall or Central Connecticut State Sunday at noon

November 20, 2016 (Miami) - Jimmie Johnson today won his seventh Sprint Cup championship and his first in three years at the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Miami.  The 41-year-old and El Cajon native is now tied with Dale Earnardt and Richard Petty as a seven-time premiere series champion.
