March 28, 2017 (San Diego) --Pregnant women, women who could become pregnant and couples considering pregnancy are advised to avoid traveling to areas with known Zika transmission after a baby with the severe birth defect microcephaly was born in San Diego County.

The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency reports the mother was infected with the Zika virus while traveling in a foreign country where the virus is common.

March 27, 2017 (Sacramento) -- Gov. Jerry Brown warned the Trump administration Sunday that attacking California over immigration “could blow up in your face in a giant recession.”

Brown, who is in Washington and appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said the Trump administration should be careful interfering with the Golden State because of its size and economic power.

March 27, 2017 (San Diego) – Last week, lead contamination was discovered at a school in the San Diego Unified School District.  Testing was done after a service dog refused to drink the water and a film was noticed on the water’s surface.  Now, San Diego Unified School District has announced it will test all local schools’ water systems.

March 26, 2017 (Ocotillo Wells) - A magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook the East County desert and Imperial County early Sunday morning, with the epicenter 69 miles east-northeast of San Diego, CBS 8 reports.

March 26, 2017 (Fort Collins, Colo.) - The San Diego State softball team dropped an 11-5 decision to Colorado State in the series finale Sunday at Ram Field. The Aztecs (18-13, 2-4 MW) had 12 hits in the game, but left eight on base and committed three errors.

March 25, 2017 (El Cajon) – Cal Fire and Heartland Fire crews responded to a call at 6:30 this morning in the 1500 block of North Magnolia Ave. in unincorporated El Cajon, where they found an auto repair shop fully engulfed in flames.

March 25, 2017 (San Diego) -- President Donald Trump did not win bigly in today’s vote — that never occurred — in the House of representatives. The one-two step of repealing Obamacare in favor of what many (not the White House) call Trumpcare and others (Trump’s supporters) call Ryancare simply did not happen. They didn’t have the votes. Cable coverage and stories detailed how the bill was hemorrhaging hard-core conservative Republican and moderate Republican support.

March 25, 2017 (Borrego Springs) – On April 1^st (no fooling!) the Anza Borrego Foundation will hold a day-long celebration commemorating its founding 50 years ago. 

The ABF will throw a party to look back at its accomplishments to support the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, and set the mood for the next 50 years.

March 25, 2017 (Lakeside) – Thousands of eggs and 1,700 pounds of trout are among the attractions at the Spring Carnival Lake Jennings slated for Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   The event will also feature free paddle boating for the whole family, a Kid’s Pond for children under age 10, rainbow trout fishing and of course, an egg hunt.

March 24, 2017 (Jamul) -- Fighting fires in the East County just got a little easier thanks to the Jamul Indian Village Tribe, which handed over the keys to two fire trucks to the San Diego Fire Authority at a ceremony that was held March 22 on the premises of the Hollywood Casino in Jamul.

March 24, 2017 (Sacramento) – California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson filed a court brief Wednesday  in the Ninth Circuit federal court supporting Santa Clara County’s request for a preliminary injunction to halt an executive order by President Donald Trump. Trump’s order aimed at deporting many undocumented immigrants threatens to stop federal funding for California cities, counties, and possibly public schools.
