June 24, 2012 -- A sliver of moon and a spangle of stars shone down on the Ocotillo desert last night, where representatives from eight tribal nations joined in ceremonies to honor their ancestors. Hundreds of people from across the southwestern U.S. came to mourn the desecration of Native American sacred lands, cremation sites and the natural environment that is now occurring on public land.
As twilight melted into darkness across the shifting sands and jagged ridgelines, the night’s silence was broken only by the whistling of the wind and the cadence of ancient Native American songs unchanged for the past 10,000 years. But that way of life—and the peaceful presence of this place--may soon be gone forever.

June 24, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)— Katarzyna Johnson, 28, violated a domestic violence restraining order by entering a residence in the 200 block of Lilac Drive in unincorporated El Cajon last night at 7:19 p.m., armed with a knife in an effort to take her child. According to a Sheriff’s news release, Johnson had previously made statements about taking her daughter with her to heaven to see her father, who died recently.

In 1788 Maryland and Virginia in 1789 donated a hundred square miles of land to the American government to be used for a capital city. George Washington chose the territory contributed by Maryland, and title to Virginia’s land was returned to that state. Before Washington, D.C., was established, the early congresses had met in Philadelphia, Lancaster, and York, Pennsylvania; Princeton and Trenton, New Jersey; Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland; and New York City.

June 23, 2012 (Blossom Valley) -- Maya is a two year old German shepherd/ husky mix that has the body of small shepherd and the mind of a smart husky, making it easy to teach her anything. She bonds very closely, and is a love bug when cuddling is concerned. She would like a home where she can act as a companion to her new owners, joining them in their day to day life.

June 23, 2012 (La Mesa)—Manual Morales Rodriguez, 28, is under arrest after turning himself into the Chula Police headquarters Friday night. Rodriguez told officers that he was wanted for the murder of Jesse Nader, 26. Nader, a resident of Spring Valley, was stabbed to death in the 4200 block of Mars Way in Rancho San Diego on June 17.

June 22, 2012 (Deer Springs) – Cal Fire and San Diego Fire have stopped a two-acre brush fire that started midmorning near Circle R Drive in the Deer Springs area. Cause of the blaze is under investigation. No structures were threatened or lost.
Firefighters remain on scene mopping up hot spots. Approximately 75 firefighters responded to the blaze.

No need for power lines or power plants anymore, since roads and driveways will actually deliver electricity straight to your doorstep.
Sound impossible? Think again.The Federal Highway Administration issued a contract to Solar Roadways, brainchild of Idaho electrical engineer Scott Brusaw, to build the first ever solar Road Panel prototype in 2009. In 2011, a contract to build a solar parking lot was issued--with completion due this September
But a solar roadway can do much more than produce power--and the potential is enlightening.

June 21, 2012 (San Diego) – San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) announced June 18 that it had completed and put into service Sunrise Powerlink, a 500,000-volt transmission line linking San Diego to Imperial Valley.
“Putting the Sunrise Powerlink into service is the final milestone in a complex and challenging energy project that ranks among the largest and most significant in the history of San Diego Gas & Electric,” said Jessie J. Knight, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of SDG&E.
