November 17, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – All lanes are blocked due to an accident on Highway 67 at Slaughterhouse Canyon. Mercy Air is attempting to land and a rescue is in progress for multiple patients in a crash involved a PT Cruiser, a Toyota, and a third vehicle.

PINE VALLEY TEEN PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF CHIEF PETTY OFFICER IN THE NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS

 November 16, 2011 (El Cajon) – Kaitlin Ortmeier, 16, a Junior at Granite Hills High School, was promoted to NSCC Cadet Chief Petty Officer at a ceremony at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado on November 13. The rank of the Chief Petty Officer or CPO is the highest rank a cadet can earn, and the equivalent of Scouting’s “Eagle” rank.

Naval Sea Cadet Kaitlin Ortmeier, 16 has the anchors of a Chief Petty Officer pinned on her by her grandfather, Frank Ortmeier, who served in the Navy as a Gunner’s Mate from 1958 to 1963.

SHERIFF RELEASES LICENSE PLATE OF VEHICLE USED IN ARMED ROBBERY OF BARONA CASINO

November 9, 2011 (Lakeside) – Four masked robbers, armed with guns, pulled off a brazen robbery at Barona Casino early this morning only to leave cash behind in an abandoned Ford Limited edition Explorer SUV.  The dark green vehicle had a California license plate of 4NA416 and a CMH bumper sticker.

SUSTAINABLE HOMES TOUR NOV. 5 SHOWCASES CREATIVE LIVING—FROM A STRAW BALE HOME TO AN AIRPLANE HANGER

 
November 4, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- Lakeside River Park Conservancy will host a Sustainable Homes Tour on Saturday, November 5. The tour includes about 10 sites on tour, including many in East County.
 
 
These homes have a variety of sustainable applications from the construction of the homes, products, landscape and conservation. The variation from new build construction to renovations of older homes provides a broad display of opportunities and ideas for the next home owner touring the sites.

JULIAN ACTIVIST MAKES THIRD RUN FOR CONGRESS

 
Oct. 31, 2011 (San Diego's East County)  – Local community activist Connie Frankowiak will once again make a run for Congressman Duncan Hunter’s (R-Alpine) seat in the United States Congress in 2012. In June, she will face off against fellow Democrat David Secor, Tea Party activist Terri Linnell, and Congressman Hunter in the new “top two” open primary. As the name states, only the top two vote getters will move on to the general election in November.

LAKESIDE DEATH RULED A HOMICIDE


October 20, 2011 (Lakeside) – The body of a male found dead October 18 inside a home in the 11400 block of Rocky Lane, Lakeside has been ruled a homicide.

“It was violent,” Lt. Larry Nesbit with the San Diego Sheriff’s office confirmed. Identity has not yet been released pending identification by the Medical Examiner and notification of family.

October 19, 2011 (Lakeside) – A male body was found in a home in the 11400 block of Rocky Lane in Lakeside yesterday morning. Deputies responded to a call at 10:38 a.m. and requested that the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail respond due to suspicious circumstances at the scene.

BARONA POW-WOW SEPT. 2-4 TO OFFER $60,000 IN PRIZES FOR TRIBAL DANCERS


September 2, 2011 (Lakeside)--Tribal dancers from across the United States will compete for $60,000 in prize money at the Barona Poway. The pow-wow will be held Friday, September 2 through Sunday, September 4 at the Barona Baseball Field on the Barona Indian Reservation in Lakeside. 

 

This event, which also features Native American crafts, jewelry and food vendors, is free and open to the public.

I am sending this in hope of raising awareness of our Golden eagles here in San Diego County. Recently these magnificent eagles have come under attack by the construction of the Sunrise Powerlink. This could be the last time we see footage like this video of an eagle chick here in Lakeside, California and in many other parts of the San Diego's East County.

August 18, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Elizabeth Rodriguez, 16, of Spring Valley has been missing since August 11. The San Diego Sheriff’s office is treating the case as a runaway, according to Detective Ward at the Lemon Grove Sheriff substation. However her parents have posted flyers asking the public to help locate their daughter, who was last seen Friday, August 11 in Lakeside at 12:45 a.m.
