BORDER PATROL AGENT DIES IN CAMPO CRASH WHILE ON DUTY

May 16. 2022 (Campo) – A U.S. Border Patrol agent died Friday, May 13 of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash near Campo. The agent, a 40-year-old man assigned to the El Cajon station in the San Diego sector, was the sole occupant of the USBP vehicle.

12 INJURED IN PINE VALLEY CRASH AFTER BORDER PATROL PURSUIT

December 9, 2021 (Pine Valley) – A dozen passengers in the back of a pickup truck were ejected and suffered moderate to major injuries on December 7 after a pursuit from Border Patrol agents ended in a crash. None of the passengers were wearing seatbelts; only the driver was restrained.

November 17, 2021 (San Diego) – San Diego Congressional members Juan Vargas and Sara Jacobs, along with Congressman Juan Castro of Texas, have sent a letter urging the U.S. Department of Justice to investigation allegations of critical incident teams or “shadow units” within the U.S. Border Patrol.

SURGE IN BRAZILIAN MIGRANTS AT SAN DIEGO BORDER

August 6, 2021 (San Diego) – The U.S. Border Patrol reports an unprecedented wave of Brazilian nationals apprehended along the San Diego-Mexico border. Since Oct. 1, 2020, agents have apprehended over 7,300 Brazilian migrants – up from 330 for the entire fiscal year 2020.  Every month since April of 2021, over 1,000 Brazilian nationals entered the U.S. across the Mexican border in the San Diego area – a staggering increase of more than 114,000%  from the same timeframe in FY20, where SDC had just six total apprehensions of Brazilian nationals.

November 21, 2019 (Campo) -- U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 16 individuals Wednesday afternoon after smugglers cut the old landing mat border wall to facilitate a vehicle drive-thru human smuggling incident.

MAN ARRESTED AT PINE VALLEY CHECKPOINT AFTER 2 MEN FOUND IN TRUNK

GUNSHOT VICTIM'S BODY FOUND EAST OF OTAY

August 17, 2015 (Otay) –An agent from the U.S. Border Patrol found the body of a Hispanic man alongside a roadway in unincorporated San Diego County at 6 a.m. on the morning of August 12, 2015. “The man had been shot multiple times in the upper body and died as a result of his injuries,” said Lieutenant John Maryon with the Sheriff’s homicide detail.

BORDER PATROL TO TEST BODY CAMERAS ON AGENTS AND REVAMP USE OF FORCE POLICIES

September 19, 2014 (San Diego) – In response to complaints over alleged misuse of force against detainees and suspected border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol has announced it will begin testing body cameras on its agents starting October 1st. Initially the testing will be done at the agency’s training center in New Mexico.  If found to be successful, the cameras could be implemented more broadly to equip agents along the U.S.-Mexico border.

U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENTS FOIL COCAINE AND METH SMUGGLING ATTEMPTS AT SAN DIEGO CHECKPOINTS

 

 
June 27, 2012 (San Diego)--U.S. Border Patrol agents prevented two drug smuggling attempts last week resulting in the seizure of cocaine and methamphetamine worth an estimated $344,650, the U.S. Border Patrol has announced. The seizures were made on checkpoints in San Diego’s East County and North County.

BORDER PATROL AGENT ARRESTED FOR HARBORING ILLEGAL ALIENS; FATHER SOUGHT BY AUTHORITIES

 

 

January 11, 2011 (San Diego) – U.S. Border Patrol Agent Marcos Gerardo Manzano Jr., 26 has been arrested yesterday on a federal warrant and charged with harboring illegal aliens and making a false statement, San Diego FBI Special Agent Keith Slotter announced today. Also arrested was Jose Alfredo Garrido-Morena, 26, who is charged with being a deported alien with no legal right to enter or be present in the U.S.

 

The arrests are the result of an investigation by the Border Corruption Task Force.  Authorities are also seeking Manzano's father, Marcos Gerardo Manzano Sr., who is a fugitive.

MEXICAN IMMIGRANT IN CRITICAL CONDITION FROM TASER USED BY BORDER PATROL DURING STRUGGLE

 

Update:  The injured man, Anastasio Hernandez, died Saturday. The County Medical examiner's office listed high blood pressure, methamphetamine use, and the physical altercation with officers as contributing factors in his death.

May 29, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the serious injury of a 32-year-old Mexican border crosser. Following a struggle, a Border Patrol agent used a Taser to subdue the suspect, who quit breathing and is not expected to survive, according to SDPD.

MAN DIES IN FALL FROM ALPINE VIEWPOINT

September 3, 2009 (Alpine) – A man plunged 200 feet to his death from a viewpoint off Eastbound I-8 east of Willows Road in Alpine this afternoon. U.S. Forest Service and Border Patrol officials responded at 12:30 p.m., when a technical rescue was attempted. However the patient was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
