April 23, 2019 (San Diego) - On May 4, Father Joe’s Villages will host the 35th annual Children’s Charity Gala to support life-changing services for children and families experiencing homelessness, spanning from preschool to medical care.  The event will include awards to “East County Heroes” including El Cajon resident Terry Caster.

April 23, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – A New Path (Parents for Addiction Treatment and Healing) celebrates its 20th anniversary of lifesaving advocacy with a gala evening on Saturday, April 27 from 6-10 p.m. at the Hyatt Mission Bay. Founded in Spring Valley, the organization provides education and advocacy for therapeutic drug policies and will celebrate two decades of community service.

April 2, 2019 (Borrego Springs) – The Alice Wallace Band will perform a free outdoor concert this Sunday, April 7 at the Springs At Borrego (2255 DiGiorgio Rd.) in Borrego Springs.  Recently named female vocalist of the year in the California Country Awards, Alice Walker is a singer/songwriter who mixes modern folk, classic country, American and blues into a genre all her own.

March 24, 2019 (El Cajon) – You’re invited to a Warbird Expo and World War II collectors’ swap meet at Gillespie Field in El Cajon on Saturday, April 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Tickets for a ride in real WWII aircraft (a historic WWII SNJ-5 Trainer) can also be purchased online or at the event.

This is the largest fundraiser of the year for Air Group One to help keep these historic World War II aircraft flying and fund youth education programs.

March 23, 2019 (San Diego) - The San Diego Harp Society will hold its annual advanced students harp recital at the Mission Trails Church, 4880 Zion Avenue, San Diego 92120 on April 14th from 3 - 4 p.m.  This is a free concert (for donations) and every dollar collected goes directly to the San Diego Harp Society.  Second Sunday Community Concerts and the Mission Trails Church do not take any donated money.

March 19, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – Activists have announced plans for a “Rainbow Dance Party” to counter picketing by the hate group Westboro Baptist Church on Monday, March 25th. The counter-protesters will begin their event at 6:45 a.m. at El Cajon Valley High School, shortly before Westboro’s picketing starts at 7 a.m.  Then the rainbow dancers and marchers will proceed to Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, arriving before Westboro’s picketing at 8:30 and remaining until 9:30 a.m.
