September 23, 2010 (San Diego) – U.S. Attorney Laura E. Duffy announced last week that three men have been sentenced to prison for sexual exploitation of a child and sex trafficking involving a minor.

CAR EXPLOSION HURTS WOMAN IN RANCHO SAN DIEGO

Update 8:45 p.m. - The injured woman was a daycare worker, neigbors have said.  Channel 8 News reports a "large-scale" evacuation that was expected to continue for several hours as the FBI bomb squad searches other vehicles throughout the area.  Officials have not yet stated whether they believe the victim was targeted or not, or what the motive may be.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF 11-YEAR OLD

 

September 23, 2010 (Encanto) – Two people in a White Ford Explorer reportedly tried to coax an 11-year-old walking to school into their vehicle yesterday morning, San Diego Police report. The attempted kidnapping occurred near 61st street and Division in the Encanto neighborhood southwest of Lemon Grove.

MOTORIST REPORTS ROBBERY BY THIEF IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER

September 20, 2010 (Alpine) – A man driving near the intersection of Dehesa Road and Dehesa Ranch Road in Alpine around 11 p.m. last night told officials that he pulled over after seeing a flashing red light and a white spotlight behind him, Channel 10 News reports. Sheriff’s Lieutenant. Jim Duffy said the motorist claims that he was robbed at gunpoint after pulling over, believing he had been stopped by law enforcement.

ARREST MADE IN SANTEE FOR MURDER OF EL CAJON WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN TUOLUMNE COUNTY

 

September 20, 2010 (Santee) – Pete Frank Dominguez, 39, was arrested today in the 10200 block of Prospect Avenue in Santee by El Cajon Police in cooperation with investigators from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office. Dominguez was arrested on an outstanding homicide warrant in the death of Christina Maria Pierce, formerly of El Cajon.

ATTEMPTED CARJACKING AT PARKWAY PLAZA

 

September 19, 2010 (El Cajon) – A woman was robbed in the east parking structure at Parkway Plaza shopping mall on Thursday, September 16 at 11:47 a.m. by a man who also tried to carjack her vehicle. El Cajon police have released a security photo of the suspect, an African-American man, 18-25 with a muscular build and a tattoo on his neck.

September 18, 2010 (Santee) – A San Diego Sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded Pedro Galarza, 26, a documented gang member on parole. Deputies responded to a call shortly after 8 p.m. last night from his mother, who said her son was armed with a knife and was attempting to abduct a child.

September 16, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) 1:00 p.m.– A white van implicated in the assault on a teen jogger in Blossom Valley on September 5th may have been involved in multiple stalkings of women in East County neighborhoods during the past couple of weeks. Other women have reported that they were stalked by a white van in the Cottonwood, Monarch Ridge and Rancho San Diego areas, East County Magazine has learned.

SHOOTING IN EL CAJON

 

September 15, 2010 (El Cajon) -- Officers from El Cajon Police Department responded to a 911 call from a man asking for help last night at 10 p.m. The man, 18, had suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper thigh. The victim told officers that and his cousin had been sitting in front of 273 Wisconsin when they were confronted by a young, bald Hispanic man. The victim told police the assailant pursued him and shot him in the leg as he fled.

MAN WITH CROSSBOW PROMPTS STAND-OFF IN POWAY, NEARBY SCHOOL ON LOCKDOWN

 

Update 6 p.m.:  This dispute ended peacefully with no injuries following  a four-hour standoff.  The man, Stephen Gainder, 45, surrendered to deputies and was taken to Pomerado Hospital for evaluation.  Pomerado News reports that a neighbor called the Sheriff following a loud dispute between Gainder and his elderly mother. After deputies attempted to subdue him with a taser and beanbags, he armed himself with a crossbow.  
September 14, 2010 (Poway) 12:56 p.m. -- Negotiators from the San Diego Sheriff’s office are attempting to talk a man armed with a crossbow into surrendering. According to ECM news partner 10 News, deputies performing a welfare check in the 14000 block of Tobiasson Road were told by the man that he is armed with a crossbow and refusing to come out.

September 13, 2010 (Mt. Helix) – The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is conducting an enforcement operation in the Mt. Helix area of La Mesa, East County Magazine has learned.

 

“We have served four search warrants and seized approximately 500 marijuana plants and two rifles,” Amy Roderick, public information officer with the DEA’s San Diego field division, informed ECM at 10:55 a.m.

September 12, 2010 (Lakeside) – Joseph Cantorna, 54, was arrested today in the 8800 block of Cherry Road in Lakeside for lewd acts involving a child. According to Sgt. Brent Strahm with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, a witness intervened and called Sheriff’s deputies after observing the man inappropriately touching a 9-year-old boy and attempting to expose himself.

September 8, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore has released a sketch of a man suspected of assaulting and trying to kidnap a 19-year-old woman on Saturday at 5 p.m. The teen was jogging near Quail Canyon Road and Palomino Ridge in the Blossom Valley community.

September 6, 2010 (City Heights) – San Diego Police report an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old boy Friday at 6:41 p.m.. The boy was walking westbound on Orange Avenue in the City Heights neighborhood when a white van pulled up next to him. The side door opened, revealing a man and woman, both black, who offered the boy a ride. The juvenile ran away and was pursued on foot by the man. There is no description available of the driver.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF TEEN JOGGER IN EAST COUNTY

 

September 6, 2010 (Blossom Valley) – A man driving a white van with tinted rear windows attempted to kidnap a teen jogging in Blossom Valley yesterday around 5:15 p.m. The suspect, a white or Hispanic male, age 20-35, was wearing a Padres baseball cap. He reportedly tackled the  woman, 19, from behind and tried to drag her into the bushes, tearing her clothing.

 

“He lost his balance and fell down, which allowed her to escape,” Sergeant Brent Strahm at the San Diego Sheriff’s Department told East County Magazine.

SUSPECT SOUGHT IN SERIES OF CAR BURGLARIES

 

September 1, 2010 (La Mesa)--Michael Penwell is being sought by the La Mesa Police Department after fleeing from a traffic stop where numerous items of stolen property, narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found. Penwell is described as a white male, 25, with blond hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a thin build and multiple tattoos. He also has a felony parole warrant for his arrest.

August 31, 2010 (El Cajon ) - The FBI and El Cajon Police Department seek the public’s help to identify two men who robbed a U.S. Bank branch inside Albertsons grocery store at 1608 Broadway, El Cajon, on Saturday, August 28 at 2:48 p.m. The two men simultaneously approached two tellers and threatened to shoot them if they did not comply with demands for money.

MURDER CHARGES FILED IN STAGED LAKESIDE CRASH

 

August 27, 2010 – Murder charges have been filed against Michael Richardson, who is accused of staging a June 29, 2010 car accident on Highway 67 in Lakeside to cover up the deaths of his wife and mother-in-law.

The bodies of his wife, Thao Richardson, and his mother-in-law, Phan Lai, were found in wreckage down an embankment, days after their deaths. As ECM previously reported.

ARMED KIDNAPPER BARRICADED IN APARTMENT

 

August 25, 2010 (Tierrasanta) 4:30 p.m. – A San Diego Police SWAT/Emergency Response team has been dispatched to an apartment building at 9000 Gramercy Drive near Ruffin Road. A man wanted for kidnapping and domestic violence has barricaded himself inside. “He has access to multiple weapons and he is believed to be armed at this time,” Lt. Andra Brown told East County Magazine, adding that the weapons are handguns.

SENATE PASSES CHELSEA’S LAW


 

August 24, 2010 (Sacramento)-- Assembly Bill 1844, Chelsea's Law, passed the California State Senate today by unanimous vote. The measure, carried through the Senate by Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth, (R-Murrieta) was authored by Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher (R-San Diego). The bill aims to strengthen protections for California children from violent sexual predators.

RED-HANDED SUSPECT? WELLS FARGO BANK ROBBER TRIPS DYE PACK IN EL CAJON

 

August 20, 2010 (El Cajon) – Police seek a bank robber who held up Wells Fargo Bank, 475 Fletcher Parkway, at 9:07 this morning. The thief got more than cash, tripping a red dye pack to explode. Police are seeking the suspect, a white man in his late 20s to early 30s with blond hair and a goatee. He wore a black-and-white camouflage sweatshirt, glasses, and a black baseball cap with white logo.

22 VEHICLES VANDALIZED IN SCRIPPS RANCH

 

August 20, 2010 (Scripps Ranch) – On Wednesday, 22 vehicles were damaged on Hibert Street in Scripps Ranch. A witness saw a white man with curly brown hair, 18-25 years old and around 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 8nches tall, run from some of the vandalized vehicles to a black two-door Honda Civic

DRIVE-BY PURSE-SNATCHING IN COSTCO LOT

 

 

August 20, 2010 (La Mesa) – A woman walking in the Costco parking lot in La Mesa on Wednesday shortly before noon had her purse stolen As the suspects drove past the victim, one suspect hung out a passenger window and forcibly grabbed her purse, causing burn-type abrasion to her arm. The suspects were last seen speeding away through the Costco parking lot.
