INTOXICATED HIKER ARRESTED

 
July 25, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – The San Diego Sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call Monday at 5:17 p.m. regarding a female hiker who reportedly had fallen off a rock while hiking at Three Sisters Falls.  Law Enforcement and Fire/Rescue resources were dispatched to the scene. These resources consisted of a Sheriff's Deputy, a fire/rescue helicopter, A Sheriff's Department law enforcement patrol helicopter, as well as engine companies from the U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE.

HIKER, 19, DIES OF HEAT STROKE AT CEDAR CREEK FALLS

 

Excessive heat warning in effect; Sheriff issues safety tips for hikers

July 11, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for San Diego County’s desert areas, cautioning that conditions “could be deadly” for unprepared campers or hikers. 

That message comes too late for Lynn Thu Tran, 19, of Escondido.  She was found unconscious with signs of heat stroke on the Julian side of Cedar Creek Falls at 5:30 p.m. on July 9. She was airlifted to Palomar Hospital but did not survive.  According to the Medical Examiner, she died of hypethermia, conditions related to a heat stroke.

July 5, 2012 (San Diego)--FREEZE! Do a good deed and get a cool treat from Sheriff's Deputies.

Sheriff's Deputies are issuing a different kind of "ticket" to children this summer.

Don't be alarmed if deputies stop you along a bike path or sidewalk or call you over to the patrol car, a release issued by the Sheriff’s office cautions. This summer, deputies will "ticket" kids caught in the act of doing a good deed with Slurpee© beverage coupons.

SHERIFF INVESTIGATING SERIOUS INJURY OF CHILD IN RAMONA

July 5, 2012 (Ramona) – San Diego Sheriff’s Child Abuse unit, Homicide Detail and Crime Lab are investigating the serious injury of a 7-month-old child.

Ramona deputies received a call at 11:27 a.m. yesterday to assist fire department paramedics in 2600 block of Southern Oak Road.  The child, injured inside the home, was transported via air ambulance to Rady Children’s Hospital but is not expected to survive, said Lt. Larry Nesbit with the Sheriff's Homicide Detail.

U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENTS FOIL COCAINE AND METH SMUGGLING ATTEMPTS AT SAN DIEGO CHECKPOINTS

 

 
June 27, 2012 (San Diego)--U.S. Border Patrol agents prevented two drug smuggling attempts last week resulting in the seizure of cocaine and methamphetamine worth an estimated $344,650, the U.S. Border Patrol has announced. The seizures were made on checkpoints in San Diego’s East County and North County.

SEARCH ON FOR MISSING BONITA MAN, 80, WHO NEEDS OXYGEN

 

Update June 22:  Joe Rodrigues is safe after walking into a medical clinic; he was hospitalized overnight for observation.

June 21, 2012 (Bonita) – The Sheriff seeks public help to find Joe Rodrigues, an 80-year-old Hispanic man who uses oxygen at night and walks with a cane. He walked away from his residence at 3709 Glen Verde Court in Bonita between 4 and 7:50 p.m. yesterday.

Although his destination is unknown, authorities say he may be heading toward his prior residence in downtown San Diego. He may have been wearing a dark baseball cap, long-sleeve blue shirt and glasses.  He is 5 feet 10 and weighs about 180 pounds.

June 14, 2012 (Lemon Grove) – Animal Control officers have removed three apparent pit bull dogs from a home in the 3500 block of West Street in Lemon Grove, where an eight-month-old baby boy was attacked late this afternoon.

May 25, 2012 (Poway) – San Diego Sheriff’s office has revealed details in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Poway on May 22.  Two of the occupants were on probation while a third had an outstanding arrest warrant; all now face new charges.

TWO SUSPECTS IN A LEMON GROVE BURGLARY ARE IN CUSTODY

May 23, 2012 (Lemon Grove) – San Diego Sheriff’s deputies from the Lemon Grove station responded to a residential burglary in progress at 1420 Bakersfield Street, Lemon Grove on May 18 at approximately 9:06 a.m.  after a neighbor reported an unknown male forcing open the front door of the residence.  The deputies saw two males exiting the residence in the backyard.

May 19, 2012 (La Mesa) –La Mesa Police and the San Diego County Sheriff’s helicopter are searching El Cajon Blvd. and Williamsburg and vicinity for a vandalism suspect armed with a knife.  The suspect is a white, unshaven male with brown hair, wearing a blue or gray T-shirt and shorts.

FATHER AND TEEN DAUGHTER FOUND DEAD IN CAMPO HOME

Update March 8, 2012: The deceased have been identified as Jim Simmons, 41, and Donna Simmons, 16.

March 6, 2012 (Campo) – Yesterday morning, Sheriff’s deputies discovered the bodies of a man and his 16-year-old daughter at a home in the 2600 block of Cameron Truck Trail in Campo. 

“The reporting party told deputies that he read a text message on his phone,”  Sgt. David Martinez said. The message, from the father found dead, “essentially read that the man’s daughter committed suicide and the man was going to be with his daughter.”

WITNESSES REPORT BURGLARY AT CLEANERS IN RAMONA

 

 
February 20, 2012 (Ramona) – Several witnesses saw a man enter Nancy’s Cleaners at 1688#A Main Street in Ramona at 12:45 a.m. yesterday.  According to Sgt. Daniel Vengler with the San Diego Sheriff, the burglar took the cash register and left, but dropped it outside.  He picked up a small amount of cash and fled northeast from the shopping center on foot.

LOCAL BURGLARY SUSPECT ACCUSED OF DUPING SENIORS IN EAST COUNTY IS ARRESTED

January 4, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – A man suspected of burglarizing senior citizens in Santee, Chula Vista, and Rancho Bernardo was arrested this morning. Joshua David Nicholes, 20, was taken into custody by detectives from the Santee Sheriff’s Station and Riverside Sheriff’s deputies after a warrant search on Margarita Road in Temecula.

BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND

 

 

On Monday, December 19, the search for Dan Hoff resumed.  At approximately 10:20 a.m., ASTREA discovered a body with a gun lying next to it, in the rural brush area on the back side of Iron Mountain.  The body was subsequently recovered and positively identified as Mr. Hoff.  The body sustained a single gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted in a suicide.

Confirmation of the cause of death will be made by the Medical Examiner’s Office pending further investigation.

MEDICAL EXAMINER RULES 6-YEAR-OLD RAMONA BOY’S DEATH A HOMICIDE RELATED TO CHILDHOOD ABUSE


December 4, 2011 (Ramona) – A child who died Tuesday at his adoptive parents’ home in Ramona has been found to be a victim of homicide. The Medical Examiner’s office has ruled that 6-year-old Samuel Isaiah Dahlke died from complications of a head injury inflicted by his father at age two months.

SHERIFF’S SEARCH AND RESCUE FORCE FINDS SEVERED ARM FOR INJURED CALTRANS WORKER

November 17, 2011 (Poway) – A quick-thinking emergency room nurse at Pomerado Medical Center in Poway helped reunite a Caltrans worker with his arm, which was severed in a freak accident at 1:45 p.m.  The nurse suggested calling the San Diego Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team to find the missing arm.
