LA MESA FLAG DAY PARADE MAY 30

May 20, 2015 (La Mesa) --   The American Flag will be flown proudly at the 18th annual La Mesa Flag Day Parade on Saturday, May 30th. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. led by the United States 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Band through the downtown La Mesa Village.  Enjoy this year’s Grand Marshal: Sharp Grossmont Hospital Celebrating 60 years in La Mesa. View the many floats, military vehicles, active and retired war heroes, equestrian units, service clubs, and youth groups.  Arrive early to see two pre-parade concerts, La Mesa Middle School and Parkway Middle School bands, at 9:00 a.m. along the La Mesa Boulevard parade route.

SANTEE STREET FAIR AND CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL MAY 23

 

May 19, 2015 (Santee) – The Santee Street Fair and Beer Festival organized by Santee’s Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, May 23rd from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This large festival features local breweries from around San Diego County, live music and entertainment, a crafter row and artist alley, over 300 food and vendor booths, carnival rides and games for the family.

They have gone to various parts of the United States, Mexico and France. They live in La Mesa, CA where Espinosa’s husband works as a veterinarian in his own clinic.

The Legends exhibit is comprised of paintings by local artist Mona Mills (famous for her realist style blending painting and photography to produce riveting, almost 3-D portraits), photography by San Diego County Library Director José Aponte, and an impact statement about each legend by Deputy Director Susan Moore.

May 17, 2015 (Spring Valley) – Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a stabbing near the IHOP restaurant on Broadway in Spring Valley around 11 p.m. on Thursday, May 14th.  According to Sergeant Jeremy Sheppard, two males were fighting in the parking lot when one began stabbing the other.

BOIL WATER ORDER ISSUED FOR MT. LAGUNA RECREATION AREA

May 16, 2015 (Mt. Laguna)--The County’s Department of Environmental Health has issued a Boil Water Order for the Mount Laguna Recreation Area’s water system on Sunrise Highway on Friday. The agency indicated that  the drinking water system tested positive for E.Coli and total coliform bacteria, which means water may be contaminated with human or animal waste.

HOUSE FIRE DISPLACES EIGHT PEOPLE IN LEMON GROVE

 

May 14, 2015 (Lemon Grove)--At approximately 7:51 p.m., Sunday, May 3, Heartland Fire & Rescue crews in Lemon Grove, responded to reports of a structure fire in the 25-hundred block of Pergl Street. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a single-story structure at 2523 Pergl Street.

COUNTY PROVIDES UPDATE ON BOULDER CREEK ROAD GRADING AND CLEANUP

May 15, 2015 (Cleveland National Forest) – Last month, we reported that the County had begun a major cleanup of dirt dumped inside Cleveland National Forest along Boulder Creek Road, an area proposed for federal wilderness desgnation, following an East County Magazine investigation.

Now County communications specialist Gig Conaughton has provided follow-up information in response to our questions on whether piles would be completely removed, whether the dirt contained invasive or flammable weed species, and whether a similar cleanup would be done following similar grading by SDG&E.

HELIX WATER BOARD WEIGHS FINES FOR EXCESS WATER USE, ADDITIONAL DROUGHT ACTIONS

May 14, 2015 (La Mesa)- At yesterday’s board meeting, staff at Helix Water District presented a drought action plan and resolution to the board.  No action was taken, with the measure slated to be brought back to the board for action  on May 20th. If approved, the plan calls for tough enforcement and hefty fines of up to $500 against heavy residential water users who fail to cutback water use.

PARK STATION: WILL THE THIRD TIME BE A CHARM?

May 14, 2015 (La Mesa) -- Park Station is coming before the La Mesa Planning Commission for the third time since the application was first submitted in 2008. The hearing will be held on May 20 at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers. The first time it was kicked to the curb on the basis of height and density. The second time everyone -including the applicant- was stunned when the American Legion Hall withdrew their co-application during the hearing, requiring the Kitzman’s to come up with a new plan.

May 14, 2015 (El Cajon) - The Piano Lesson was written by American playwright August Wilson in 1890 as the fourth play of ten in  the Pittsburgh Cycle. The play received a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1990. The play was inspired by a Romare Bearden painting. Wilson intended the play to deal with self-worth and ends up asking how do you best put your legacy to use?

WARNER SPRINGS VICTIMS IN DOUBLE MURDER-SUICIDE NAMED

 

May 12, 2015 (Warner Springs) – Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have identified the victims in a murder-suicide that occurred on May 1st at a home on Chihuahua Valley Road.  The double-murder victims are Sadie Louise Stockalper, 27, and Elena Howard-Vinnard, 54.  Both were found dead of gunshots in the upper bodies.

BODY FOUND IN BURNED ALPINE HOME

 

May 13, 2015 (Alpine) – Yesterday at 1:55 p.m., detectives from the Alpine Sheriff’s station responded to a radio call reporting a structure fire in the 1400 block of Marshall Road in Alpine.  Finding a home fully engulfed in flames, deputies evacuated nearby neighbors and check surroundings for any victims.
