September 3, 2011 (Rancho San Diego)--The Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College invites the public to enjoy its 2011 fall and winter events.  Gardening classes help residents save water and money by focusing on water-smart landscaping techniques and plants.  Classes are taught by professionals , with offerings for both adults and children.

September 3, 2011 (San Diego) -- “San Diego CleanTech Beach: Riding The Green Jobs and Economy Wave” is an event to designed to help people countywide launch or expand clean technology careers, start-ups and community initiatives by providing briefings from leaders in the green economy sector.

September 2, 2011 (Lakeside)--Tribal dancers from across the United States will compete for $60,000 in prize money at the Barona Poway. The pow-wow will be held Friday, September 2 through Sunday, September 4 at the Barona Baseball Field on the Barona Indian Reservation in Lakeside. 

This event, which also features Native American crafts, jewelry and food vendors, is free and open to the public.

The 10th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/2001 is upon us. 9/11 was the result of an al-Qa’ida terrorist attack on all citizens and residents of the United States. September 1, 2011 (San Diego's East County)--Effective today, fire restrictions on the Cleveland National Forest have been moved to the “Elevated” level. The increase in fire restrictions is due to dryer fuel conditions, higher temperatures, and the likelihood of small fires becoming larger fires.

September 1, 2011 (LA Mesa) -- Speeders, beware.  On August 21, the La Mesa Police Department was notified that it was the recipient of a grant award from the San Diego County Law Enforcement Foundation. Each year the generous organization awards law enforcement in San Diego County with grant funds to be used toward an agencies life saving efforts.

September 1, 2011 (Descanso) -- This year, Our Lady of Light Parish will be holding its 74rd annual barbecue on September 4th. Our Lady of Light is a Catholic Church in Descanso, California, 32 miles outside of San Diego. Each year on Labor Day Sunday, people from across San Diego County converge on the little town for the Church's annual Labor Day barbecue.

August 31, 2011 (Pala) -- The Pala Fire is now 100% contained, Cal-Fire spokesperson Roxanne Provaznik confirms.

Total cost to fight the fire exceeded $1.8 million.  Total acreage burned is estimated at approximately 233 acres. The acreage has been down-sized from earlier estimates due to more accurate mapping, according to Cal Fire.

August 30, 2011 (Julian) – Beautiful, historic Julian is an enjoyable place to experience art galleries and shops selling local artists’ works. This weekend, the Julian Art Guild hosts a Labor Day show that brings together numerous artists in one place on September 2-5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Julian Town Hall, upstairs, on Main Street.

Update September 9, 2011: The suspect has been identified as Steven Ritter, 21. He is 6 feet 1 inch tall with a shaved head, and remains at large.

Aug. 28, 2011- Sweltering heat couldn’t keep East County wine lovers from kicking off this year’s grape harvest at San Diego’s award winning Orfila Vineyards and Winery’s 18th annual grape stomp in Escondido’s San Pasqual Valley yesterday.

Roughly 420 people channeled their inner vintner by stomping freshly picked grapes with their bare feet, leaving many astounded with the sheer gooey nature of the after product.
