June 20, 2013 (San Diego's East County) -- The County’s Board of Supervisors are being sued for approving their Wind Energy Ordinance & Plan Amendment last Month. The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) complaint was filed last week by Stephan C. Volker, of Volker Law, on behalf of two rural East County grassroots non-profit groups: Protect Our Communities Foundation (POC) & Backcountry against Dumps (BAD).
They are challenging the vote approving the Wind Energy Ordinance and Plan Amendment, which they claim “gutted” the Boulevard Community Plan, approved by the Supervisors in August 2011, and violated two passages in the first Article of the California Constitution:












June 21, 2013 (Alpine) – The Alpine Certified Farmers’ Market opened earlier this month at the Alpine Creek Town Center, 1347 Tavern Rd. The market is held every Tuesday from 3 – 7 p.m. The Market is also a pick up location for Sage Mountain Farms’ CSA program for all of East County.
A short path in the southern part of the County measures only ¼ of a mile long but its destination is huge -- Otay Valley Regional Park and 8,500 acres of open space.
June 21, 2013 (Alpine) – The American Cancer Society’s Alpine Relay for Life begins at 8:00 a.m. at Joan Mac Queen Middle School, 2001 Tavern Road, Alpine. Get a group of friends, family, or co-workers together as a Relay team and get ready for 24 hours of fun, excitement with music, food contests, awards and prizes. Participants can choose to walk or run the relay.
