November 29, 2010 (El Cajon)--Grossmont College Music Department will present “Jazz Night,” an evening of Grossmont College students performing a recital of various styles of jazz music, starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, in Room 220 on the Grossmont College campus. November 28, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – The Salvation Army Kroc Center Kroc Kids Junior Theatre Company will A Christmas Carol on December 10-12. The beloved holiday production retains its emotional power and pure joy thanks to the marvelously-told story by Ockrent and Ahrens and the powerful Menken/Ahrens score filled with beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics. Sixty youths ages 7-19 will perform.

PARAGLIDER'S ROUGH LANDING RESULTS IN SPINAL INJURY

 

November 27, 2010 (Lakeside) – Lakeside Fire Protection District received a report of a paraglider that had experienced a rough landing at the Blossom Valley Glider Port, resulting in injuries to the pilot. A rescue response was dispatched, including one structural engine, one rescue unit , an ALS ambulance, and Battalion Chief Lawler.

FEDS FIND 2ND MAJOR CROSS-BORDER TUNNEL IN OTAY MESA

 

Discovery leads to arrests and significant marijuana seizure

 

November 27, 2010 (Otay Mesa)—More than 20 tons of marijuana have been seized and eight people have been arrested following discovery of the second major cross-border tunnel found in the past two weeks. The half-mile-long tunnel links an Otay Mesa warehouse to a residence in Tijuana, Mexico.

12 IN SANTEE HOME TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

 

Update 8:30 p.m. - SDG&E has cleared the scene and determined that no carbon monoxide was present.  The initial call was for a woman suffering stomach pains, a Heartland Fire dispatcher said.  Twelve patients were transported to Grossmont Hospital. It is not yet known what caused the symptoms.

November 26, 2010 (Santee) – Twelve people in a large family are believed to have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in a home at 9165 Paseo Cresta in Santee tonight. Incident Page Network reports that Sheriff’s officials, emergency medical responders and SDG&E have been summoned to the scene.

SMOKER CAUSES APARTMENT FIRE, INJURY TO MAN IN EL CAJON

 

November 26, 2010 (El Cajon)--Late Tuesday night, just before 11:00 p.m., Heartland Fire Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of a fire at the Lexington East Apartments in the 200 block of Jamacha Road in El Cajon. Firefighters from Heartland Fire & Rescue arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the open front door of one of the apartment units.

HOMELESS FOR THE HOLIDAYS: STILL NO WINTER SHELTER IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY

November 26, 2010 (San Diego, California) – As temperatures hit record cold Thanksgiving night, San Diego’s homeless still had no winter shelter.

 

“People are literally freezing out there,” said Bob McElroy, director of the Alpha Project, which helps San Diego’s homeless and mentally ill get off the streets.

Council first considered a shelter in the East Village area, to serve homeless people countywide. (East County has no winter shelter.) Then in October, Council voted to open Golden Hall as a temporary winter shelter—but reneged on that pledge the day after the election, voting to shift the shelter to Barrio Logan instead. But yesterday, workers were still assembling beds—leaving the homeless outside in a bitter cold that dipped below freezing.

BRRRR! FROST WARNING ISSUED FOR TONIGHT

 

November 25, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Temperatures will drop below freezing tonight, dipping into the upper 20s to low 30s  in San Diego County’s inland valleys, mountains and lower deserts, with temperatures down to the low 20s possible. A frost advisory has been issued from 10 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Friday morning.

 

The National Weather Service advises keeping pets indoors and taking steps to protect sensitive outdoor plants, which may be killed if left uncovered.

November 25, 2010 (Lemon Grove)--The Sheriff’s Lemon Grove Station, Lemon Grove Kiwanis, and Spring Valley Kiwanis will host a Holiday Pancake Breakfast on Friday and Saturday, December 3 & 4,  from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice will be served. Children can also visit with Santa at the United Methodist Church.

November 25, 2010 (Washington D.C.) –The First Family carried out a tradition of community service by volunteering at Martha’s Table, a food pantry, the day before Thanksgiving. Earlier, President Barack Obama was joined by his daughters as he carried out another tradition, the “pardoning” of two turkeys at the White House. There, he reflected on the meaning of Thanksgiving and delivered this message on the importance of taking time during the holiday season to give back to our communities:

November 25, 2010 (Sacramento) -- After hearing that a Salvation Army in Compton was overwhelmed with 140 more requests from needy families for turkeys than it could fill, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger took action.  He called the center and wrote a check for 240 turkeys, "to make sure you don't run out," the Los Angeles Times reported.
