September 19, 2016 (Colorado Springs, Co.) - San Diego State football players Donnel Pumphrey (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Tanner Blain (Lindenhurst, Ill.) have each been named Mountain West Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Pumphrey was chosen as the MW Offensive Player of the Week, while Blain garnered MW Special Teams Player-of-the-Week accolades.

September 18, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State closed its non-conference schedule on Sunday night with a 1-0 loss to No. 24/23 Texas Tech at SDSU Sports Deck. The difference maker was an own goal, which snapped the Aztecs’ two-game winning streak and dropped them to 2-5. The Red Raiders, meanwhile, improved to 7-1-2.

September 18, 2016 (DeKalb, Ill.) - Donnel Pumphrey rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns and Christian Chapman threw for a career-high three touchdowns of his own as San Diego State overcame a late rally in a 42-28 win over Northern Illinois Saturday in DeKalb, Ill.

September 17, 2016 (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) - The visiting No. 11/7 San Diego State men’s soccer team maintained its unbeaten start to the 2016 campaign after battling Cal Poly to a 0-0 draw on the road in double overtime Saturday night at Spanos Stadium.  With the result, Aztecs moved to 4-0-2 on the year, while Mustangs move to 1-4-1 overall.

September 17, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State completed a perfect weekend with three-set victories over Long Beach State (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) and Cal State Fullerton (25-13, 25-16, 25-12) on Saturday on Aztec Court. Those wins, couple with the three-set triumph over UC Santa Barbara Friday evening, improved the Aztecs to 8-5 as they end the week on a four-match winning streak.

September 17, 2016 (Riverside, Calif.) - Nearly every member of the San Diego State cross country team that competed at the UC Riverside Invitational recorded her collegiate best en route to a fifth place team finish at the 6,000-meter race in Riverside, Calif., on Saturday morning.

September 16, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State combined a balanced attack with some solid defensive play as it needed just three sets to defeat visiting UC Santa Barbara (25-21, 25-21, 27-25) Friday evening on Aztec court. With the victory SDSU improved to 6-5 on the season while the Gauchos saw a three-match winning streak end and their record fall to 8-3.

September 16, 2016 (San Diego) - San Diego State scored two goals in a matter of four minutes to help defeat Weber State, 3-0, Thursday night at SDSU Sports Deck. With the Aztecs’ second consecutive victory, they improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 2-3-1.

September 15, 2016 (San Diego) — An arrest at San Diego State University today sparked protests after videos posted online showed SDSU police officers forcing the African-American man, who was not a student to the groundVideos posted on the Daily Aztec show the man standing on a balcony at the student center near where the rapper Chance was slated to perform when he was tackled from behind.(Warning, strong language). Video does not show events leading up to the incident.  The man, whose identity has not been released, shouted to the officers, “You’re breaking my arms!” and insisted he didn’t do anything wrong. He was arrested after the take-down.

Students took to social media with the hashtag #BlackUnderAttackSDSU.  But SDSU’s president Elliott Hirshman issued a statement indicating the man had jumped a construction fence and had been reported by two callers to be acting erratically.

September 15, 2016 (San Diego) - By a very narrow margin, SDSU freshman swimmer McKenna Meyer captured the individual title as San Diego defeated the University of San Diego, 33-24, in the annual pentathlon at the USD Sports Center Pool Thursday afternoon. The Aztecs captured seven of the top t10 spots in the final pentathlon individual standings.

September 13, 2016 (Alberquerque) - San Diego State women’s golfer Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) finished second at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Tuesday after posting a school-record 54-hole total of 13-under-par 203 at UNM Championship Course. The Aztec senior fired a final-round 70 on the par-72, 6,317-yard track to jump one spot on the individual leaderboard for her 11th top-five placement as a collegian. In the process, Blair eclipsed her own program standard of 11-under 205 set at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown last October.

September 11, 2016 (San Diego) - The No. 13/9 San Diego State men’s soccer team posted its fourth shutout in a row on Sunday with a 2-0 conquest of Memphis in the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament at SDSU Sports Deck. With the victory, the Aztecs claimed the team championship at their weekend event, improving to 4-0-1 on the season, while the Tigers slip to 3-3 overall.

September 10, 2016 (San Diego) - For the second day in a row, the San Diego State volleyball team recovered from a 2-1 set deficit to post a five-set victory at the Art Carmichael Invitational in Kingston, R.I. Saturday afternoon it was Stony Brook that was the victim as the Aztecs rallied to defeat the Seawolves by set scores of 25-19, 18-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-7.
