August 19, 2015 (La Mesa) -- Haley Harris, a 15-year-old sports enthusiast from San Diego, will be given the unforgettable experience of delivering the official Match Ball onto the field at Rugby World Cup 2015 in London, courtesy of DHL. Selected as the winner of the U.S. DHL Youth Leadership Scrum Contest, Haley will become a part of Rugby history by representing the U.S. on the world stage of Rugby World Cup 2015.

“BOLTMAN” TO NFL: MOVING CHARGERS TO L.A. WOULD VIOLATE ANTI-TRUST ACT

August 19, 2015 (San Diego)—Striking a blow for Chargers’ fans, Dan Jauregui,  a loyal fan known as the “Boltman” fired off a letter yesterday to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Chief legal officer Anastasia Danias. The letter contends that moving the Chargers to Carson is a violation of both the NFL constitution’s bylaws and the federal Sherman Antitrust Act.

“Me and other loyal  Chargers fans are prepared to spearhead an initiative to force the City to file a lawsuit against the NFL unless the League and the Chargers enter into serious talks to keep the team in San Degio,” Jauregui’s letter states.

August 11, 2015 (San Diego)--The San Diego Chargers will pay tribute to Chargers and San Diego icon and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Junior Seau prior to the team’s regular-season home opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13.  The tribute will take place prior to kickoff on the 50-yard line at Qualcomm Stadium and will feature a special video followed by an address from Seau’s daughter Sydney.

The contest is slated for this Saturday (July 11) at San Manual Stadium on the San Manual Indian Reservation in Highland, Calif., located off Interstate 210 just east of San Bernardino.

TEAMING UP TO CLEAN RIVER PARK IN SANTEE: PADRES AND TOYOTA PITCH IN

 

June 8, 2015 (Santee)--Toyota of El Cajon joined forces with the Padres Volunteer Team to help the San Diego River Park Foundation remove trash and debris from the San Diego River Watershed in the Forester Creek area of Santee on Saturday, June 6. The cleanup event targeted 20 sites along the river’s watershed, with the goal of collecting over 3,600 lbs. of trash in three hours.

BILL SEEKS TO PROTECT CHEERLEADERS, REDUCE INJURIES

June 1, 2015 (Sacramento) – Two-thirds of all catastrophic sports injuries among female high school and college athletes nationwide occur in cheerleaders, according to a report by the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

San Diego Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, a Democrat and former cheerleader, says cheerleading is “the most dangerous sport for high school athletes,” the Sacramento Bee reports. This week, Assembly Bill 949, a measure by Gonzalez aimed at improving safety for high school and collegiate cheerleaders, passed the Assembly by a 71 to 3 vote.

AZTECS BASEBALL TEAM WINS MOUNTAIN WEST
