For the past few Friday nights, GMC Acupuncture Clinic on University Avenue in La Mesa has been hosting Food Fest Friday, where local food trucks can promote their business and people can try a variety of foods at a reasonable price.

March 11, 2012 (Julian) -- Jeremy’s on the Hill and Manzanita Brewery are teaming up and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a three-course beer pairing on Tuesday, March 20th at 6:15pm. 

“We are going to have specials on St. Patrick’s Day and all weekend long, and wanted to extend the celebration to Tuesday by offering 3 great beers from Manzanita Brewery and 3 special courses for just $28!” said Chef Jeremy.

EAST COUNTY PRODUCE EXCHANGE-A COMMUNITY SOLUTION

 
Update June 24, 2012: The new location fo the East County Produce Exchange is the parking lot between the Jamul Hardware Store and the new Jamjul Cafe. The exchange has also changed its hours, from 4-5:30 p.m. on the last Saturday each month.

February 18, 2012 (East County) -- We have all seen oranges or lemons abandoned under trees in someone’s yard or even our own. Some of us have olives or pomegranates but no time to process them. Now there is a local solution. It is called the East County Produce Exchange, created by two Steele Canyon High School students in Jamul, John Chapman and Blake Powers. ECPE teamed up with Alpine Ranch Creative & Ecological Solutions, Inc. or A.R.C.H.E.S to organize and sponsor the Exchange. The venture has been wildly successful. December 30, 2011 (San Diego)--Since 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been helping refugees rebuild their lives after fleeing tumultuous wars or other catastrophes in their homelands.  The IRC is currently active in 22 U.S. cities as well as overseas. In 2001, the IRC created its Microenterprise Program with the goal of helping refugees create their own businesses.

In the last 10 years, the IRC has helped 175 San Diego-based refugees become small-business owners. To showcase some of the great refugee-owned eateries of East County, the IRC hosted a Micro-finance bus tour, offering patrons a chance to sample some delicious cuisine from Iraq and East Africa.

Our region has emerged as a nationally recognized hub for craft beer making, with over 40 breweries. San Diego's brewers won more medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup than the traditional beer bastions of Germany, England and Belgium combined.
