POLL SHOWS HUNTER LEAD SLIPPING OVER PRIOR RACES FOLLOWING INDICTMENT

August 28, 2018 (San Diego) – In his prior five campaigns for Congress, Duncan D. Hunter waltzed easily to victory over his Democratic opponents with margins of victory ranging from 17% in 2016 to a whopping 42.8% in 2014. But a new poll by Survey USA of likely voters released Monday, days after Hunter’s indictment on federal corruption charges, shows him with a mere 7%  lead over Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar.

LEMON GROVE BUSINESSES TO BE HONORED

August 28, 2018 (Lemon Grove) -- A new series from the Lemon Grove Historical Society honors businesses founded in Lemon Grove in the past 40 or more years, including those that moved on to become major national brands. The series kicks off on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Lemon Grove City Council meeting, Community Center, 3140 School Lane.  Businesses will be honored at each city council meeting through June 19, 2018 in honor of the city's 40th anniversary of incorporation.

SANTEE JOGGER KILLED; DRIVER ARRESTED FOR DUI

August 28, 2018 (Lakeside) – A woman jogging on North Woodside Avenue near Riverford Road in Santee was struck by a Chevy work truck driven by Michael Woodfill, 46, tonight at 6:40 p.m.  

Susana Gotell, 41, was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with major injuries, but died shortly after arrival.  She was the mother of two teens, ages 16 and 18, Fox 5 News reports.

Herrick Community Health Care Library, a consumer health library at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, is now presenting its Summer Art Exhibit showcasing 24 oil paintings created in a collaborative process by seniors and disabled adults living at Del Cerro Manor, a San Diego private residential care facility for the elderly. The exhibit runs through September.

The Aztecs begin its 2018-19 season on Sept. 14, when they host San Diego for the annual crosstown pentathlon meet at the Aztec Aquaplex.

The Aztecs will play 13 games prior to the start of Mountain West action with eight coming at Viejas Arena. The challenging slate features five teams that advanced to the postseason, including three that earned NCAA tournament berths.

August 26, 2018 (Descanso) — David Alan Derby, 77, of Santee and Ryan Michael Willis, 36, of San Diego were killed in a plane crash near Descanso on Wednesday.  The plane, a single-engine 1682G Champion 7KCAB, was owned by Derby’s company, Three Point Partners Inc.

HYUNDAI DRIVER KILLED AFTER CHASE THROUGH EL CAJON

August 26, 2018 (El Cajon) — A suspected drunk driver died after crashing into a tree and a retaining wall near the intersection of East Main and North Second Street in El Cajon early Saturday morning. The driver of the vehicle, a Hyundai, fled from California Highway Patrol Officers who tried to pull him over after they spotted him speeding and weaving on eastbound Interstate 8 near Severin Drive around 2 a.m.

Junior outside hitter Ashlynn Dunbar and senior middle blocker Deja Harris were both named to the 2018 Aztec Invitational All-Tournament team after standout performances over the weekend.

August 24, 2018 (El Cajon) - Week two of ECM Friday Night Lights takes us to El Cajon for a huge early season East County matchup between the Valhalla Norsemen and the West Hills Wolf Pack.  The Norsemen are coming off a 41-14 loss at University City last week, while the Pack come back to San Diego carrying the momentum from a 20-3 win against Southwest El Centro.

The Aztecs dropped their first game of the season to move to 1-1, while the Red Raiders won for the third time in three tries.

August 24, 2018 (Santa Clara) - The San Diego State men’s soccer team fell in their season opener 2-0 at Santa Clara Friday evening. The Broncos scored the game-winning goal on a PK in the 64th minute and then added an insurance goal in the 88th minute.
