May 23, 2012 (Poway) -- There's an alarming report about teens behind the wheel. A new study released by the American Automobile Association or AAA this month shows teen drivers are more likely to be involved in a deadly crash if they've got other teens in their car. The study finds having friends in the car can be a deadly distraction for young drivers, but that risk is greatly reduced when parents or other adults are in the car.

May 23, 2012 (Alpine)--The new Buffet at Viejas had its grand opening on Tuesday morning. The fanfare included a tribal blessing from Kumeyaay elder Virginia Christman and traditional bird songs led by tribal member John Christman. Viejas Tribal Vice Chairman, Robert “Cita” Welch, addressed a crowd of tribal elders, leaders, local dignitaries, Chamber of Commerce representatives, public and the press during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. With the smell of sage in the air being prepared for the smudging, he called the new buffet at Viejas among the best in the San Diego area.
May 23, 2012 (Lemon Grove) – San Diego Sheriff’s deputies from the Lemon Grove station responded to a residential burglary in progress at 1420 Bakersfield Street, Lemon Grove on May 18 at approximately 9:06 a.m.after a neighbor reported an unknown male forcing open the front door of the residence.The deputies saw two males exiting the residence in the backyard.
May 23, 2012 (Alpine) – Alpine voters will decide on the June ballot whether nearly $12 million in bond monies should be authorized to fund the Alpine Union School District. The District faces a half million dollars in annual budget cuts due to falling property tax revenues and anticipated cuts in state funding.

May 22, 2012 (Santee) – On May 16, Santee Patrol Deputies arrested Dylan Castle, 20, of Lakeside in the 9400 block of Carlton Oaks. May 21, 2012 (Julian) – Julie Faith Fortier, 39, of Irvine, lost her life in a motorcycle accident that occurred May 19 on State Route 78 at the Banner Grade near Julian.
According to the Medical Examiner’s office, Fortier was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her husband when he lost control on a curve at a high rate of speed.

Staff recommends denial of Tule Wind turbines on County lands

May 21, 2012 (San Diego) – A decision on two controversial wind issues have been postponed by San Diego County’s Planning Commission.
A proposed wind ordinance as well as changes to the Boulevard community plan have been delayed until July 20.In addition, planners heard public comments on the Tule Wind project proposed for McCain Valley, but postponed a decision until June 8, due to the absence of two planners.
Without changes to the wind ordinance, any approval of industrial-scale turbines would violate county height requirements in rural areas. Thus approval of Tule Wind turbines on County lands June 9 appears unlikely.
May 20, 2012 (Switzerland) –As in the United States, wind energy projects have been fast-tracked through much of Europe, including sites within protected preserves. Now the United Nations Economic Commission’s compliance committee has found the European Commission in violation of international rules under the Aarhus Convention by failing to allow citizens’ adequate participation in decision-making processes regarding siting of renewable energy projects.
