April 5, 2021 (El Cajon) – For the past 64 years, the Music Scholarship Council based in El Cajon has enriched our community with classical music. The nonprofit 501c3 group has provided over $400,000 in scholarships for aspiring young musicians ages 16-24 across San Diego County to further their musical ambitions, including instrumentalists and vocalists. But now, that mission is in peril.

LAKESIDE RALLIES TO SAVE JACARANDA TREES FROM DESTRUCTION BY COUNTY

April 5, 2021 (Lakeside) – On April 9, San Diego County is slated to cut down nearly two dozen jacaranda trees to make way for a new county library—trees that the county claims are growing in a utility easement.  But Lakeside’s historian Betty McMillen disputes that claim – and is fighting to save the trees, which hold special significance as part of a “mile of trees” planted in Lakeside -- trees planted to replace an earlier canopy of trees felled by bulldozers.

RABBITS RESCUED BY SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

April 5, 2021 (San Diego) -- Seventeen of the 23 rabbits rescued by San Diego Humane Society’s Humane Law Enforcement earlier this month are ready to find new, loving families. The rabbits have been rehabilitated and medically cleared by San Diego Humane Society’s veterinary team.

Experts are starting to see cases pop up, and they advise people with symptoms to ask their doctor to arrange a hearing test right away, because treatments are more effective early on.

April 3, 2021 (Stanford) - The Aztec men’s soccer team (1-5-2, 1-5-2) fell at No. 6 Stanford (8-1-1, 6-1-1) 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

All four goals came in the first half. After the Cardinal went up top, the Aztecs scored the equalizer but then saw Stanford score two more before the half.

April 3, 2021 (San Diego’s East County) – David Archer, 56, has been arrested after deliberately ramming multiple vehicles at three locations on Thursday. The suspect then fled, leading deputies in a pursuit from unincorporated La Mesa through Lemon Grove ending in Spring Valley, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s department.

FIREFIGHTERS CONTAIN AUTO WRECKING YARD FIRE

April 3, 2021 (Spring Valley ) --  Crews from San Miguel Fire Department, Heartland Fire and San Diego Fire & Rescue successfully controlled a fast moving commercial fire on Jamacha Road in Spring Valley on Thursday.

According to Heartland Fire in a post on Instragram, Initial arriving units encountered heavy fire and smoke from behind an auto wrecking and recycling facility. The smoke column was pushed by a strong west wind which produced an immediate threat to exposures including businesses and an apartment complex.

GROSSMONT COLLEGE STREAMS THE MAD ONES APRIL 8-17

Over the past several months, many theatres have turned to streaming as an alternative to provide you with a form of entertainment, give a few people in the business a little work and serve as fundraisers to keep theatres afloat until they can get back to live performances.  Grossmont College’s Stagehouse Theatre needs your support. The theatre will be streaming "The Mad Ones," a musical coming to your home/device April 8-17, 2021.

Only fans on the respective team pass lists from the state of California will be allowed to attend as no tickets will be sold or made available to the public.
