March 8, 2018 (Kent, Wash.) - The 14-time and 2017-18 Pacific Division Champion San Diego Sockers dropped Game One of the best-of-three Major Arena Soccer League Divisional Championship Series to the Tacoma Stars 5-2 at accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington on Thursday night. San Diego now must win Game Two to set up a series-deciding 15-minute Mini-Game at Valley View Casino Center on Saturday night. The two goals scored by San Diego was their lowest offensive output of the season.

March 7, 2018 (La Mesa) - The Grossmont-Helix rivalry may not be as strong in lacrosse as it is in other sports, but the hate was still there as the boys from both schools took the field tonight in the first conference matchup of the season.  The Highlanders are 2-1 overall and undefeated (1-0) in league, while the Foothillers remain undefeated at 1-0 in each category coming into tonight.

March 6, 2018 (San Diego) - The San Diego State women’s tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak with a solid 4-1 victory over Furman on Tuesday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs came from behind to claim the doubles point and only allowed one Paladin victory in singles before clinching the match.

March 6, 2018 (Tuscon) - The San Diego State baseball team suffered a 13-4 setback to Arizona at Hi Corbett Field. The No. 25 Aztecs fall to 8-4 on the year, while Arizona evens its record to 6-6.

The Aztecs swung the bat well in the early stages of the game, scoring a pair of first-inning runs in thanks to a Jordan Verdon double scoring David Hensley and Julian Escobedo. An inning later, the Aztecs built that lead to 3-0 with leadoff hitter Matt Rudick bringing home Escobedo on a single through the left side of the inning.

March 5, 2018 (Flagstaff) - The San Diego State swimming and diving team had five divers in action at the NCAA Zone E Championships on the first day of competition featuring 1-meter action in a 59-diver field.

Alexandra Caplan led the Aztecs with a 13th-place finish, scoring at 266.90. Caplan’s effort was followed by sophomore Marie Yacopino, who placed 35th with a 234.05.

March 4, 2018 (San Diego) - San Diego State softball was originally supposed to play Boston University at 7:00 p.m. last night and ECM was supposed to cover the last game of the San Diego Classic against UCLA today, but due to scheduling changes and rain, SDSU’s only game today is against the Terriers of BU.  Freshman Cali Dolfi started on the hill for BU against sophomore Marissa Moreno for the Aztecs.

March 3, 2018 (San Diego) - The Pacific Division Champion San Diego Sockers (19-3) concluded their 2017-18 MASL regular season with a 10-3 rout of the El Paso Coyotes before a season-high crowd of 5,218 at Valley View Casino Center on Saturday night. Anthony Medina, who announced his retirement after nine seasons, scored three goals in his final game.

Playing in its first night game of the season, SDSU snapped a two-game losing streak, improving to 3-2 overall, while the Bonnies remain winless on the year at 0-5.

March 2, 2018 (Tempe) - The San Diego State women’s tennis team played its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season on Friday when it visited No. 33 Arizona State, where the Aztecs dropped a 4-0 match to the Sun Devils at the Whiteman Tennis Center. ASU clinched the match with a doubles win and by claiming the first three singles matchups.

March 2, 2018 (San Diego) - Steele Canyon.  Eastlake.  Spring Valley.  Chula Vista.  Both making the trek to inner city San Diego to Mission Bay High School for the CIF Open Division Championship.  The Cougars finished the season 12-6-6 overall and 3-2-3 in the Grossmont League.  Compare that to the Titans’ 18-5-3 overall record and impressive undefeated 9-0 record in league, and this was sure to be a wild ride.

March 2, 2018 (Surprise, Ariz.) - Padres spring training is well underway.  They look...well, about as well as you’d expect the Padres to look, only a lot better thanks to Eric Hosmer.  They’re 3-3 with a tie against the Rangers yesterday.  Today they faced the Kansas City Royals. Danny Duffy started for the Royals against newly-acquired former Yankee Bryan Mitchell for the Padres.

The Sockers (18-3), who will meet the Tacoma Stars in the Divisional Championship Series beginning Wednesday, March 7,  are one win away from securing the second-best record in the MASL and the possibility of having home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
