February 23, 2018 (Cathedral City, Calif.) - Katie Byrd (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) doubled home Jordyn Fick (Ramona, Calif./Ramona HS) in the bottom of the fifth inning and then scored on a single by Molly Sturdivant to lift the San Diego State softball team to a 2-1 win over rv/No. 25 Notre Dame and a split Friday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Aztecs (5-9) have now won four of their last five games.

Ashley Henderson highlighted the day by finishing in first place in the 60 and 200 prelims, she looks to defend her titles in the finals tomorrow.

February 23, 2018 (Spring Valley) - Helix may be out, but playoff basketball is alive and well in Spring Valley this Friday night as Monte Vista welcomed Guajome Park Academy from Vista in the CIFSDS Division Four quarterfinals.  The Frogs are an impeccable 19-5 overall and 8-0 in conference play, while the Monarchs post a solid 19-10 record with a 4-4 record in the Grossmont League.

February 23, 2018 (Denver) - San Diego State suffered its first loss of the season after dropping a 17-12 decision to No. 21 Denver in a Friday matinee at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Despite a career-high four goals from junior Jill Haight, the Aztecs were unable to overcome a 13-3 halftime deficit, falling to 2-1 on the year, while the Pioneers remain unbeaten at 3-0.

The Aztecs are now 4-8, while the Lady Flames dropped to 9-2.

February 21, 2018 (PyeonChang, South Korea) - Forty-two years ago, Bill Koch won the USA's only medal in cross-country skiing.  It was a silver.  Forty-six years ago, the U.S. first formed a women's cross country skiing team.

Wednesday, Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins one-upped Koch and won gold.

February 20, 2018 (San Diego) - The San Diego State baseball suffered a 3-2 setback against crosstown foe San Diego on Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium, falling victim to a 10th-inning RBI double by USD’s Dante Gutierrez. The Aztecs fall to 3-1 on the young 2018 season, while USD jumps above .500 at 3-2.

February 20, 2018 (PyeonChang, South Korea) - Americans defeated Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in Sochi.

They wouldn’t let that happen again.  They’ve worked too hard.  

So when Maia and Alex Shibutani were second, the Canadian ice dancing king and queen put together an impressive program to knock them back down to third and take gold, also defeating France’s Gabrielle Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron on Wednesday.

The Aztecs, who trailed by 13 points in the first half and by seven with two minutes left in regulation, rallied to force overtime, but came up just short despite 24 points from senior McKynzie Fort.

Late tonight, the Union Tribune reported that ex-Kansas City Royal and 2015 World Series champion first baseman Eric Hosmer is headed to the Padres.
